Hearing the distressed howling of Ghost, Davos Seaworth steps out of his chamber at Castle Black to find a bloody Jon Snow lying under a sign that reads "Traitor." With the help of Dolorous Edd and a few loyal brothers of the Night's Watch, the former Lord Commander is carried inside and confirmed dead. Davos sends Edd to retrieve Ghost, while Melisandre is stunned to see Jon's lifeless body, claiming she saw him fighting at Winterfell in the flames, and Ser Alliser takes command of the Night's Watch.
At Winterfell, Ramsay Bolton mourns his dead lover Myranda, promising to avenge her. When Maester Wolkan asks whether to bury or burn the girl, Ramsay chastises him that this is good meat, and to feed her body to the hounds. Roose Bolton allows Ramsay no time to celebrate his victory over Stannis Baratheon, hinting that locating Sansa Stark and producing a son is imperative to Ramsay's status as his heir.
Having survived their leap from the Winterfell wall, Theon Greyjoy and Sansa flee through the woods, hoping to lose Ramsay's hunting party. Exhausted and frozen, the pair huddles together under a fallen tree. Before they can freeze to death, they hear the Bolton hounds approaching. Theon fails to lure the soldiers away from Sansa, but as the Bolton men move in to seize her, Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne appear on horseback. Pod is knocked on his back during the fight, but saved when Theon drives a sword through the soldier. Having defeated Ramsay's men, Brienne offers her services to Sansa once again, and the young Stark lady accepts.
Cersei Lannister is alerted that a Dornish ship is sailing into the King's Landing harbor. Eager to see Myrcella, Cersei rushes down to the waterfront. As the royal skiff approaches, Cersei's smile fades as she glimpses Jaime's face and the shrouded body behind him. Mourning the loss of her innocent daughter, a nearly broken Cersei tells Jaime that it was fate; her childhood prophecy cannot be stopped. Jaime looks his sister in the eyes, and tells her they will take back everything that has been taken from them.
Locked in her cell with Septa Unella, Margaery Tyrell requests to see her brother, Loras, to no avail. The High Sparrow enters and, after sending Unella away, shares his concern for King Tommen. Margaery maintains she has nothing to confess, but admits no one is entirely without sin.
Ellaria Sand helps Prince Doran Martell to his wheelchair in the Dornish Water Gardens. The two exchange pleasantries until a scroll arrives with news of Myrcella's death. As Doran takes in this information, Tyene Sand stabs Areo Hotah in the spine, killing him. Doran realizes he is trapped when his guards fail to intervene. Ellaria stabs the prince in the chest, proclaiming, "Weak men will never rule Dorne again."
Still docked in King's Landing, Trystane Martell paints eye stones for Myrcella when Obara and Nym Sand enter his cabin. The two sisters let their cousin decide who he will fight. Trystane chooses Nym and raises his sword to defend himself from Nym's whip, but Obara cheats and drives her spear through the back of his head, killing him immediately.
Walking through Meereen, Tyrion Lannister and Varys discuss the state of the city and Daenerys Targaryen's dipping popularity. Tyrion listens to another Red Priest urge freed slaves to fight for Daenerys, and Varys informs Tyrion his spies are at work to discover more about the Sons of the Harpy. They see a panicked crowd fleeing from the harbor and a cloud of smoke blanketing it, and discover the Meereenese fleet has been set ablaze.
Daario Naharis and Jorah Mormont search for Daenerys. In secret, Jorah checks on his progressing greyscale. The men stumble on an indentation in the grass, trampled down by a horde of horses, and in the middle of it, they find Dany's ring.
Daenerys, disheveled and bound, is brought before Khal Moro. In perfect Dothraki, Dany reveals she is the widow of Khal Drogo. Releasing her from her bonds, Moro promises not to touch her, but says he won't escort her back to Meereen. Instead, Dany must be taken to Vaes Dothrak, and live out the rest of her days with the other widowed khaleesis, the Dosh Khaleen.
A blind Arya Stark holds out a bowl for alms with other beggars in a Braavosi alleyway. The Waif approaches, tosses Arya a quarterstaff, and gives her no choice but to fight. Arya struggles to defend herself, and the Waif leaves her bloodied and bruised, promising to return the next day.
At the high table in the mess hall, Alliser Thorne defends the decision to murder Jon and wins over the Night's Watch to his command. Thorne approaches the Lord Commander's chamber, offering amnesty if Jon's loyalists leave without trouble. Unconvinced, the group discuss their options. Davos reminds them there are others who owe their life to Jon, and Edd departs to get backup. Davos mentions asking Melisandre for help, but the other loyalists are doubtful. Davos tells them they haven't seen what he's seen her do.
In her chamber, Melisandre undresses and examines herself in a mirror. When she removes her magic necklace, the Red Woman is revealed to be in reality an ancient and withered crone. Melisandre studies her reflection until she can bear it no longer, and climbs into bed.
