Lean more about the organizations working to create lasting change in the criminal justice system.

VERA Institute

The Vera Institute of Justice is a justice reform change agent. Vera produces ideas, analysis, and research that inspire change in the systems people rely upon for safety and justice, and works in close partnership with government and civic leaders to implement it. Across projects, Vera is committed to explicitly, pointedly and effectively reducing the burdens of the justice system on people of color, and frame work with an understanding of our country’s history of racial oppression. Vera is currently pursuing core priorities of ending the misuse of jails, transforming conditions of confinement, providing legal services for immigrants, and ensuring that justice systems more effectively serve America’s increasingly diverse communities.

Fortune Society

The Fortune Society’s mission is to support successful reentry from incarceration and promote alternatives to incarceration, thus strengthening the fabric of our communities. We do this by BELIEVING in the power of individuals to change; BUILDING LIVES through service programs shaped by the needs and experience of our participants; and CHANGING MINDS through education and advocacy to promote the creation of a fair, humane, and truly rehabilitative correctional system.

Color of Change

Color Of Change helps people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by more than 1.4 million members, we move decision makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people, and all people.

Center for Victim + Human Rights

Center for Victim and Human Rights is a legal services organization working to empower and advance the safety of victims through legal representation and educational outreach, having provided legal representation, ranging from counsel and advice to full attorney representation at hearings, to over 2,500 clients since 2008.

ACLU

The ACLU is an organization of people who believe in the power of action.  Whether in the courts, statehouses, or Congress, we fight to defend the rights that the Constitution guarantees to all of us — regardless of who we are, where we come from, whom we love, or what we believe.  Together we take up the toughest civil liberties challenges of our time. We seek to be the place where people can come, no matter their political affiliation, to courageously take action.  We seek to inspire those who want change to become the ones who make change.  This isn’t about one person.   It isn’t about one party.  It’s not about taking sides.  It’s about all of us, coming together to make change happen.
