The Confederado Showdown in Pariah
Episode 5, “Contrapasso”
Logan ropes William and Dolores into a dangerous detour through Pariah — but the chaos ignites something in these previously timid characters. “It’s where Westworld stops being a game and more of a life for William,” said Jimmi Simpson, who plays the once-shy opportunist. “That’s where he detaches from Logan and attaches to Dolores.”
Evan Rachel Wood also identified a turning point in “Contrapasso” — specifically the emotion of filming Dolores’ act of defiance: “When she says, ‘I imagined a story where I didn’t have to be the damsel,’ that was a huge moment on set and for me as an actor.”
Maeve’s Journey to Consciousness
Episode 8, “Trace Decay”
Seeing the video of herself in the Delos lab triggers Maeve’s memories of her tragic past — she suddenly remembers her daughter and the wrath of the Man in Black, who murdered them both. The impact of this scene gave Thandie Newton chills: “I remember when we shot it, they actually carved out the maze in the dirt; I knew then it was going to be an epic moment.”
Episode 7, “Trompe L'Oeil”
The moment it’s revealed Bernard is, in fact, not human, “is really reflective of the overall themes of the show and the direction of the narrative,” said Jeffrey Wright, who plays Bernard (or should we say, Arnold?).
Wright takes the fan reaction as a good sign. “It’s indicative of the fact that fans were compelled and bit down hard on our little offering,” he continued. “It obviously sets up a lot for Bernard going forward.”
When Bernard and Theresa descend to a mysterious lab, Dr. Ford has plans to control what they know.
Ford Silences Theresa
Episode 7, “Trompe L'Oeil”
The heartless murder of Theresa shows just how far Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) is willing to go to protect his park. That scene was a standout for Rodrigo Santoro, who plays Sweetwater’s favorite outlaw, Hector Escaton. “That scene was so strong and Jeffrey was amazing in it,” he said.
Logan Lashes Out
Episode 9, “The Well-Tempered Clavier”
In a desperate attempt to bring William back to reality, Logan attacks Dolores. She narrowly escapes, but the incident ignites to William’s decades-long quest to find her. Ben Barnes, who plays Logan, calls that scene his favorite. “It seems dark and twisted,” he admitted, “but if you think about it, Logan’s the only reasonable person. It was fun to get into that psyche.”
The Man in Black’s True Identity Is Revealed
Season 1 Finale, “The Bicameral Mind”
Didn’t predict the William/Man in Black reveal? You’re not alone. Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, who plays Armistice, also didn’t see the twist coming: “I didn’t catch the two timelines, even though I read the scripts,” she said with a laugh.
Season 2 of Westworld premieres April 22 at 9 pm.
