Taped at New York City's intimate Bowery Ballroom before a sold-out, live audience, Dan Soder: Son of a Gary – the comedian's first HBO comedy special – showcases Soder's down-to-earth approach to being a thirtysomething New Yorker (via Colorado) and how dark humor is the only way to get through life's curveballs.
Bringing his good-natured humor to such themes as family trauma, dating in your thirties, and hitting puberty in the days of dial-up internet, Soder offers his sharp observations on a number of topics, including drug dogs at the airport, the customer service generation, fake fights in the shower and what it's like to have an alcoholic dad, but a fun one.
Soder is best known for his role as Mafee on Billions. His previous specials and appearances include Not Special, The Half Hour, Inside Amy Schumer as well as a role co-hosting the Sirius XM show The Bonfire with Big Jay Oakerson. Dan Soder: Son of a Gary is written and executive produced by Soder and directed and executive produced by Chris Storer and executive produced by Jerrod Carmichael, Bo Burnham, Brian Stern and Jef Tomsic.
