A Laura Dern and Issa Rae Project Is in the Works

The two actors are teaming up for an in-development limited series titled The Dolls.

A new limited series is in development at HBO with Laura Dern (Big Little Lies, Enlightened, The Tale) and Issa Rae (Insecure) attached as leads.

Inspired by true events, The Dolls recounts the aftermath of Christmas Eve riots within two small Arkansas towns in 1983 — riots which erupted over, of all things, Cabbage Patch Dolls. The series will explore class, race, privilege and what it takes to be a "good mother."

In addition to their starring parts, both actors are also taking on behind-the-scenes roles as executive producers. Rae will also serve as a writer on the series. Additional executive producers are Jayme Lemons and Deniese Davis, and co-executive producers and writers Laura Kittrell and Amy Aniobi.

Check back for more details as they are announced.
