New Casting for Kate Winslet's ‘Mare of Easttown’

Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart and Evan Peters are among those who have joined the limited drama series.

The limited series, executive produced by Oscar-winner Kate Winslet, has announced its casting. Here’s what you need to know.

What’s the story? As her life crumbles around her, a small-town Pennsylvania detective (Kate Winslet) investigates a local murder.

Who’s starring? Joining the previously announced Winslet (Mildred Pierce), who will play detective Mare Sheehan, will be:

Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, and Angourie Rice

Julianne Nicholson (Boardwalk Empire) as Lori Ross. She and Mare have been best friends since they were 4. Lori knows how mercurial and cutting Mare can be at times but loves and accepts her exactly as she is.

Jean Smart (Watchmen) as Helen, Mare's mother. Opinionated, stubborn and a devout Catholic, Helen never holds back on her opinions, solicited or not.

Angourie Rice (Black Mirror) as Siobhan Sheehan, Mare and Frank's daughter. Lovely and brilliant, she is rebellious and strong-headed in nature.

Evan Peters (American Horror Story: Cult) as Detective Colin Zabel, the county detective who has been called in to assist with Mare's investigation — much to her chagrin.

Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim: Uprising) as Erin McMenamin. A lonely teen girl who lives with her volatile father; the only love in her life is her infant son, DJ.

David Denman (Cinemax’s Outcast) as Frank Sheehan. An affable, outgoing man and a math teacher at the local high school, he married Mare when they were just 20 years old, but their marriage split apart years ago.

Evan Peters, Cailee Spaeny, and David Denman

Who’s behind the camera? Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace, American Woman) will write all episodes of the series, to be directed by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, The Americans, Seven Seconds).

Executive producers include Ingelsby, O’Connor, Gordon Gray through Mayhem Pictures, Paul Lee through wiip (word.idea.imagination.production.) and Mark Roybal through wiip.

Mare of Easttown is an HBO co-production with wiip.
