The Iron Anniversary

Top 10 Favorite Game of Thrones Scene Stealers

Whether it was with a look or a line, these characters always pulled attention when they were on screen.

Not every fight or disagreement on the HBO Original Game of Thrones ended with the drawing of swords. Some were won with words or a steely glance. And that’s where these characters really shined. To celebrate the Iron Anniversary, we asked the fans to help identify their Top 10 favorite Game of Thrones scene stealers. After more than 31,00 votes, the results are in.

10. Ramsay Bolton

He was feared, revilved, but still entertaining. Some characters are just so fun to watch because you hate them so much. Ramsay chewed up every scene he was in, which made his ultimate fate all the more poetic.

9. Oberyn Martell

“It's a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don’t want to be most of us.” Oberyn Martell wasn’t content with standing still and his penchant for living life to the fullest made him incredibly delightful to watch, with or without that Dornish spear.

8. The Direwolves

From cute and cuddly to fierce and protective, the direwolves were with the Starks through it all. As the sigil of House Stark, they so perfectly represented the world of Thrones, so their presence on screen was always welcome. Words can’t express how happy we were to see Ghost survive countless battles and at Jon Snow’s side until the very end.

7. Tywin Lannister

With disdain for just about everyone who wasn’t him, Tywin Lannister was the type of character you had to respect because he was so unapologetically dastardly. Whether you loved (like when he sent Joffrey to bed) or hated him (basically whenever he talked to Tyrion), he was a key to fully understanding the Lannister family.

6. The Hound

Many Game of Thrones scene stealers have a way with words, but for The Hound, it was quite the opposite. He could do so much with a grunt and a look. Watching his character arc, specifically his time with Arya, was satisfying from start to finish. There’s no one we could have been happier to see shift off of Arya’s list.

5. Tormund

Who isn’t wild about this wildling? Fierce warrior, funny friend, Tormund was a steady presence on the series, growing from Night’s Watch prisoner to loyal Jon Snow ally over the years. Viewers could always count on him to be in the middle of a big battle and always equipped with a (mildly) inappropriate comment or joke.

4. Lyanna Mormont

Small, but fierce, Lyanna Mormont was instantly beloved. Even her first mention back in Season 5 was attention-grabbing. Lyanna knew her place in the grand scheme of things, and put many in their places by suffering no fools.

3. The Dragons

Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion each had distinct personalities, and that made them all the more thrilling to watch. The dragons commanded the eyes of all characters, and the audience was no different. As they grew on screen, so did viewers’ love for them. Dracarys!

2. Tyrion Lannister

“Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you.” Perhaps the smartest, most cunning character on Thrones, Tyrion Lannister was always fun to watch, from his early drunken days to his sage adviser role with Dany. Not every character could have a running honeycomb joke for an entire series...

1. Olenna Tyrell

“Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me.” Olenna Tyrell was a force to be reckoned with, she was called the Queen of Thorns for a reason. Need we say more?
