This group 'represents the White House press corps in its dealings with the administration on coverage-related issues.' Elected by correspondents, the nine member board works with the White House on issues related to access to the President and other logistical matters. Helen Thomas was the first woman officer of the White House Correspondents Association. She also served as the organization's president in 1975-76.
With nearly 3,500 members worldwide, the National Press Club supports journalists and the mission and development of journalism through professional education programs for journalists, funds scholarships for journalism students, and the nation's only non-academic research library for journalists. In 1971, Helen Thomas became the first female officer of the group.
Established in 1961, the White House Historical Association seeks to enhance the understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the White House. This online show features photographs and descriptions of the evolving relationship between the executive branch and the White House press corps throughout the 20th century
