Song Title: Drop It Like It's Hot
Artist: Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams
Nothing in a city evolves as swiftly as the hip-hop thumping from car windows, and this appearance of Snoop Dogg's club hit marks a high point for capturing the music of a moment. "We finished that episode a few weeks before it aired," Leyh says, "so that was easy to be current." Slotting music like Ne-Yo's 'Because of You' for Season 5 took a bit more forecasting. "When I was doing it I was like, 'Well, I hope this isn't gonna feel weird and nine-months-ago by the time this episode airs,'" he says. "But I don't think it does." Leyh found a shortcut to the cutting edge in the form of Darkroom Productions, a hip-hop duo who released the aptly named 'Hamsterdam Mixtape,' a compilation of unsigned Baltimore artists. "They initially thought that we were getting in touch with them because we were angry and were going to sue them," Leyh says. "When they realized that wasn't the case, we began a sort of several-years-long-now collaboration on the music."
