My father served in the 32nd Division, 127th Infantry Regiment, Co. B and later C, in the South West Pacific Theater, seeing action to include Buna and the Villa Verde Trail. He enlisted in October 1940, and encouraged several of his friends from his hometown of Mosinee, Wisconsin, to do the same. Fritz received a battlefield commission while in the Pacific, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, two Purple Hearts, Combat Infantryman Badge, among other medals.
