My Father, Howard Elbert, of Pittsburgh PA, enlisted in the USMC in January, 1942. He was in the 1st Division, 5th Marines, 1st. Battal. He served at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester and Peleliu.

My father joined the Marines shortly after Pearl Harbor and fought in Gaudalcanal and Peleliu. He was a machine gunner, but spoke very little of the war.
