Synopsis
Dave and Katie tell May about putting the lock on their door, and when Katie explains how she woke up to a bolted bedroom door, Dave again tries to pass it off as a malfunction. Katie isn't fooled, and the discussion soon escalates. Dave accuses Katie of blaming him for their problems: "Sex has been hanging over my goddamned head for I don't know how long." She counters by telling May that Dave masturbates every chance he gets, at which point the therapist gives some strong advice. "Maybe you should forget about sex," she tells the couple, pointing out that damaging their relationship in pursuit of sex isn't worth it. Dave and Katie can't understand the logic, and Katie later apologizes for dragging them into therapy, though Dave still feels defensive: "You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, honey." Over the next few days, Dave and Katie try to digest the idea of never having sex again, but it doesn't go down easily.

Carolyn and Palek meet with May to "break up" with her; now that they've given up on having children, their problem is moot. May suggests they continue meeting, telling the couple, "You've suffered a big loss, and you need to acknowledge it." Carolyn assures May that she's dealt with her pain and then leaves with Palek. Outside, he suggests they spend the hour together – get ice cream or something – but Carolyn insists she has to get back to work. That night, Nate and Julia come over for dinner, bringing along their two kids, who run wild through the house. Getting ready for bed, Palek tells his wife, "I think we dodged a bullet." As their conversation unwinds, Palek admits that he's not sure he ever wants to have children, which stuns Carolyn. She bolts their house to go for a drive, and when she comes back, he reiterates his feelings, asking whether she can live with that. "I don't know," Carolyn replies. "I guess we'll find out." Palek also tells her that he wants to sell the house – walking around, he says, he realized he hates the place. Carolyn nods, "Not exactly full of happy memories."

May and Arthur, having sex in a chair in front of their fireplace, finish up and sip red wine while May explains the predicament facing Dave and Katie, telling Arthur that she advised them to stop having sex. "You could have told them what our therapist told us all those years ago," he says. May replies, "They're not ready for that yet. They're too fragile." Later, she goes to lunch with John, who tells her that Arthur called him. May already knows this and tells John that Arthur wants her to make a choice... again. He asks, "What if you make the wrong one?" John tells her he had a good marriage, too, but it wasn't a love affair. "Most marriages aren't," May says. "They're much more than that."

Nick comes to see Jamie, confessing that he's been seeing Anya but adding that he can't get Jamie out of his mind. She tells him that she feels the same way, and they have sex. Later, Jamie accompanies Nick to a family gathering at his mom's house, but after arriving, she starts to feel very out of place. The women in his family keep calling her Nick's girlfriend, and his Aunt Rose advises her to "keep him on a long leash." Eventually, Jamie feels so uncomfortable that she leaves, telling Nick, "I'm not your girlfriend. I don't even know why I'm here." In her session with May, Jamie admits that she slept with Nick just to keep him away from Anya, and the therapist suggests that maybe he lied about seeing his ex in order to get back at Jamie. Jamie doubts this scenario, but when she talks to Nick later, it turns out to be exactly the case – he hasn't even spoken to Anya. "You're a dick," she tells him, to which he replies, "I'm a dick?" Both guilty and liking the honesty, they kiss. Later, Jamie attends Palek's open house with Mason, and while Jamie explores the place, Carolyn catches her sitting on her bed. They exchange some terse small-talk, and Carolyn asks Jamie what the tattoo on her wrist means. "Heal," Jamie says.
