Synopsis
Katie looks at her husband Dave with love as he coaches his son, Josh's, tee-ball game. However, the closeness Katie felt fails to translate into sex once they're in bed and she later finds him masturbating instead. While the two lay patio stones with intuitive teamwork a few days later, Katie broaches the subject: "We don't ... do anything anymore." At first Dave balks, incredulous, but when he can't deny the facts, brushes the issue aside as minor. Afraid to become a "couple with problems," Dave refuses to join Katie in counseling. In her first session, couples therapist, Dr. May Foster, assures Katie she won't be the first person to be in couples counseling alone and predicts that Dave will eventually show up, if only to defend himself. That night, as the two lie in bed, Dave tries to fix things by making advances, but Katie pushes him away. "You want to lay this all on me," he says. "But it's you, too." Katie replies: "I never said it wasn't."

Carolyn and Palek, having tossed the failed pregnancy test that marks a year of trying, meet at May's office for their session. Aware of the disappointing milestone and hoping to ease the burden of sex the couple still won't admit exists, May instructs them to forget about pregnancy for a week. "Don't see it when you look at each other, when you touch each other," she says. They follow through with their homework, sneaking off to the bedroom while Palek's mother visits with her dinner guests and end their covert sex laughing in each others' arms. Later in the week, though, Carolyn can't overlook her worries any longer and secretly visits a fertility specialist for tests that, once she passes, lead her to question the virility of Palek's sperm.

While celebrating their engagement, Jamie overhears Hugo telling his friends that infidelity is a fact of married life. Jamie couldn't agree less, and she's devastated knowing that she's starting a marriage with someone who doesn't plan on being monogamous. Intermittent arguments, followed by sex, continue to shape their relationship but Hugo hopes to ride out her anger while she, betrayed and confused, knows the bottom has dropped out. When nothing gets resolved, Jamie comes by Hugo's apartment after work to pack up her things. Convincing her to take a drive with him, Hugo asserts his words were just a comment – not a belief – adding, "I was pissed because you were pissed, and I wouldn't let it go...I will never fuck anybody else." They both know this is a lie, but when their bodies cross the car's center console, neither cares.
