Displaying astonishing versatility with a wide range of projects, Ian Somerhalder is quickly making his mark on Hollywood.
Ian is currently shooting 'The Good Samaritan' in Berlin where he stars in the lead role of 'William Archer,' directed by Thomas Jahn. The story follows William who, after a long night working late at the office, stops to help an injured motorist (who is actually the victim of an assassination attempt), and as his life unravels and he becomes the assassins' new target, his long night just gets longer. He just completed 'The Tournament' opposite Kelly Hu and directed by Scott Mann about a battle that takes place every ten years between 40 of the world's deadliest assassins.
He also recently wrapped shooting the miniseries 'Marco Polo' in China for the Hallmark Channel. Somerhalder is playing the title character of Marco Polo opposite Brian Dennehy and B.D Wong. Written by Ron Hutchinson, the film traces the Venetian adventurer's journey to Mongolia where he was an envoy to the court of Kublai Khan.
Somerhalder starred in Dimension Films/Jim Sonzero's 'Pulse' opposite Kristen Bell and Christina Milian. 'Pulse' is based on the Japanese horror movie 'Kairo' and centers on a group of college students whose computer hacker friend finds a strange wireless signal that allows evil into the world. As it spreads, the students must find a way to stop it.
Somerhalder can be seen in Aaron Wiederspahn's 'Sensation of Sight' opposite David Strathairn and Jane Adams. Produced by Strathairn and Mark Constance, 'Sensation of Sight' is an off-beat drama about a man's (Strathairn) search for the meaning of life as he enters a mid-life crisis impelled by recent tragedies.
Somerhalder's other film credits include starring in Roger Avary's 'The Rules of Attraction' opposite James Van Der Beek, Kate Bosworth, Kip Pardue and Jessica Biel; Irwin Winkler's 'Life as a House' opposite Hayden Christensen, Kevin Kline and Kristen Scott Thomas; Martin Guigui's 'Changing Hearts' opposite Lauren Holly and Faye Dunaway; and Tony Giglio's 'In Enemy Hands' opposite William H. Macy, Jeremy Sisto, and Scott Caan.
On stage, Ian starred Off Broadway in Trip Cullman's ensemble, 'Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead,' an 'unauthorized parody' that follows the travails of 'Charlie Brown,' America's most hapless cartoon character, all grown up. The spoof of the Charles Schulz comic strip 'Peanuts' follows the original gang a decade later as their beloved beagle companion dies. Ian co-starred with Eddie Kaye Thomas, Eliza Dushku, America Ferrera, Ari Graynor, Logan Marshall-Green, Keith Nobbs and Kelli Garner.
On television, Somerhalder is best known for his role as Boone on J.J. Abrams' critically acclaimed drama 'Lost.' Ian won the 2005 SAG Award as part of 'Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series' and 'Lost' won the 2005 Emmy Award for 'Best Television Series - Drama.' The show was also nominated for the 2004 Golden Globe Award and the 2004 People's Choice Award.
His other television credits include the lead role on The WB's 'Young Americans,' the made for TV movie 'Anatomy of a Hate Crime,' 'CSI,' 'CSI: Miami,' 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,' and 'Smallville.'
