since returned to New Jersey, and Barbara, married to Tom Giglione, a prop man in the commercial business, three children, lives in Brewster, NY." Tony attended two and a half semesters at Seton Hall University and then dropped out to join the family business. He is married to Carmela, nee De Angelis, a tough, smart woman strongly devoted to their two children, Meadow and Anthony Jr. (AJ)
The Soprano crime family has been active in the area of Essex County and Port Newark, New Jersey since the 1930's. It is formerly known as the Di Meo family because of the long-time leadership of the boss Domenico Ercoli "Dom" Di Meo, currently serving concurrent life sentences for murder, conspiracy, extortion, income tax evasion, and jury tampering. At the death of Mr. DiMeo's hand picked successor, acting boss Jackie Aprile, Tony's uncle, Corrado ("Junior") Soprano was elevated to boss, at least in title. It is certain, however, that Tony Soprano is actually running things.
Soprano is smart and exceptionally adept at insulating himself from criminal charges. (The closest we've come to making something stick was some stolen airline tickets a few years ago; we also had an eyewitness who identified Soprano leaving the scene of the Bevilaqua murder in Hacklebarney State Park, but subsequently recanted.) Soprano is certainly a man to be feared, but is also incredibly likeable and can be very funny.
Family has always come before anything else with Soprano. But those connections have been strained. We know his mother and Uncle Junior once ordered a hit on him. (The mother has since died and Soprano appears to have mended fences with his uncle.) His relationship with sister, Janice, is contentious. The most recent and potentially significant development is that Soprano's marriage is rumored to be on the rocks. We know that Soprano has sought psychiatric help in the past; perhaps this new stressor will create a situation in his life that we can exploit to our advantage.
