Richie was recently released from Rahway after serving 10 years of 12-year sentence for extortion, racketeering, interstate transport of stolen goods, and conspiracy to commit murder. According to records, a model prisoner but unlikely to be a model citizen. All he knows is "the life."
Richie is coming home to a whole new ball game. When Jackie was alive, Richie was own man- now he must kowtow to Tony Soprano. Not a born kowtower. Certainly has accounts, contracts, card games, etc., he will try to re-own. May have to challenge Tony.
Many family connections, i.e., niece Adriana La Cerva shacks up with Chris Moltisanti, Tony's golden boy. Also, Richie once dated Tony's sister, Janice in high school. (Has one son, Richard Jr.; a ballroom dancer; the relationship is strained.) Reportedly tight with Junior, Tony's avuncular nemesis. Have heard rumors he dabbles in drug biz. Many possible scenarios for friction, backstabbing, blood.
Weakness: Highly volatile. Feelings easily bruised. Without Jackie to protect him- and without any discernable charm-could find himself quickly marginalized. Who's the best guy to flip? The one with no friends. Could be Richie's fate. We hope.
UPDATE:
True to expectations, Aprile wasted no time in stirring up trouble. Rumor has it that he had something to do with Beansie Gaeta being run over in the parking lot of his pizzeria. Word is that Tony Soprano can't stand Aprile, and vice versa. But Aprile quickly picked up where he left off with Junior - as well as Tony Soprano's sister. Richie and Janice were engaged to be married and even went to contract on an expensive house. Shortly after that, however, Aprile disappeared and to our knowledge, has not been heard from. His bride-to-be quickly left town for several months.
