Henry Bronchtein was born and raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, New York and attended New York City Public Schools. After heading the stage crew for numerous productions in high school, he went on to pursue his love for drama at New York University's Undergraduate Institute of Film.
Mr. Bronchtein came to The Sopranos with an extensive background as an Assistant Director on feature films. Having made three films with director Paul Mazursky, his credits include the award winning Enemies, A Love Story. Further credits as a First Assistant Director consist of: A Perfect Murder, Addicted To Love, The Out Of Towners, It Could Happen To You, Guarding Tess, Striptease, Weekend At Bernie's, Rookie of the Year, Raw Deal, and Eddie and the Cruisers.
Other significant non First Assistant Director credits encompass: as Associate Producer; Faithful, as Second Assistant Director; The Cotton Club, Endless Love, They All Laughed, I The Jury, and The Chosen, as Production Manager; Michael Mann's critically acclaimed series, Crime Story, and Dick Wolf's Swift Justice. Finally, Mr. Bronchtein was the Director's Guild Apprentice Assistant Director on Raging Bull.
In addition to his work as Co-Executive Producer on The Sopranos, Mr. Bronchtein has directed four episodes of the program; Nobody Knows Anything, From Where to Eternity, Fortunate Son, and Pie-O-My, Nobody Knows Anything and From Where to Eternity were both nominated for best direction by the Director's Guild of America. He has also directed substantial 2nd Unit Photography and additional scenes for episodes in all five of the seasons which the show has aired.
Directing being his first love, Mr. Bronchtein hopes eventually to make it his primary career.
