The outline for a scene from Claire's return to art school was fairly lean, according to co-executive producer Scott Buck. "It pretty much said 'Claire and Russell run into each other,' he says. But the exchange still "took a bit of rewriting because of Russell. I wanted to get the tone of it right. I wanted to show that he hasn't changed, but he's really kind of aware of what's going on. He's f#$ked up, but there's the hint, at least, that he knows it and that he's almost amused by himself."
