Summary: Reese Witherspoon stars as the lively Becky Sharp, who crosses English class lines in this film adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray's classic novel. In 1800s England, it was the duty of young women to find a suitable husband. For Becky Sharp, that means marrying above her class and recreating herself as a society woman. Born poor and parentless, Becky ambitiously manages to advance her social status, mingling with the English upper class. Eileen Atkins, Jim Broadbent, Gabriel Byrne, Romola Garai, Bob Hoskins, Rhys Ifans, James Purefoy and Jonathan Rhys Meyers co-star. Directed by Mira Nair; screenplay by Matthew Faulk, Mark Skeet and Julian Fellowes, based on the novel by William Makepeace Thackeray. (PG13) (AC,BN,MV)
