Summary: Standing alone on a windswept breakwater, a dark-cloaked woman stares out to sea, giving rise to curiosity about her mysterious past. Three-time Oscar(R) winner Meryl Streep (most recently for "The Iron Lady") is the alluring figure; Jeremy Irons (an Oscar(R)-winner himself for "Reversal of Fortune") plays a Victorian gentleman obsessed with her romantic aura. Leo McKern co-stars in this acclaimed 1981 film that was nominated for five Oscars(R), including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actress (Streep).
