Summary: Growing up can be tough, but it's especially hard if you think you're a lesbian. Such is the case for Alike, a sensitive and artistic 17-year-old African-American living in Brooklyn with her devoutly religious mother, strait-laced cop father and younger sister. Alike struggles to come out to her conservative parents, whose marriage is already strained, while embracing her burgeoning sexual identity in this "moving and heartfelt" (Rolling Stone) coming-of-age story.
