Summary: Two playwrights debating life as comedy or tragedy create two versions of the same story-one comic, one tragic-about a young woman who unexpectedly enters the lives of a married couple in this Woody Allen film. Melinda, a troubled young woman who is at the end of her rope, is the subject of the tale's two variations. In the comedy, Melinda is the would-be suicidal neighbor to an independent filmmaker and her husband-an unemployed actor who is attracted to the young woman. The tragedy finds Melinda as a suicidal wreck who shows up on the doorstep of her old college friend Laurel and her alcoholic husband. Hollywood Reporter calls the film Woody Allen's "most substantial and satisfying feature since 1999's Sweet and Lowdown." The top-notch cast stars Chiwetal Ejiofor, Will Ferrell, Jonny Lee Miller and Radha Mitchell as Melinda. Also with Amanda Peet, Chlo' Sevigny and Wallace Shawn. Written and directed by Woody Allen.
