Summary: Victor Hugo's classic tale of justice, goodness and revenge is brought to new life in this lavish, star-studded film. Liam Neeson plays the timeless hero Jean Valjean, forced into theft by poverty, who learns the value of forgiveness and decency. His personal redemption takes place against a backdrop of changing values and ideas; unrest is in the air, in both love and revolution. But Valjean himself can never be free as long as Javert (Geoffrey Rush), a police detective who has discovered the reborn convict, is alive.
