Summary: In this "engagingly told" (Variety) blend of romance, magical realism and folksy humor, a young woman whose mother has recently died travels to a superstitious little town in the Dominican Republic to search for the father she has never met. She finds him living on a banana plantation, which the locals claim to be haunted by spirits, and decides to stay with the drunken, recently widowed old man in order to face the ghosts of the past that haunt them both.
