Summary: This is where the demonic horror all began! This prequel to William Friedkin's 1973 classic chronicles Fr. Merrin's first battle against demonic possession. Set in 1949, Fr. Merrin (Stellan Skarsgard)--played by Max von Sydow in the original film--is a fallen-away priest whose loss of faith prompts him to concentrate on archeology. Sent to Kenya to investigate the discovery of a buried ancient church that is in pristine condition, Merrin finds himself up against something far stranger than any archeological find--and far more evil.
