Summary: "A great family film" (Robert Roeper, Ebert and Roeper). A horse-loving family nurses an injured racehorse back to health--and back to the track. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a compassionate trainer working for the wealthy, ultra-competitive Palmer, whose horse Sonador (or "Sonya," as they call her) has a great racing future. But when Sonya breaks a leg and Palmer wants the animal put away, Ben abruptly quits and takes the ailing horse. All seems hopeless with Ben out of a job and the bank ready to foreclose on the family farm, but the dreams of Ben's spirited daughter Cale (Dakota Fanning) and some unexpected support give Sonya--and Ben--a second chance.
