Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Summary: Director Tim Burton cooks up an eye-popping confection in this magical adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic children's tale. Johnny Depp--in the role that Gene Wilder made famous in the 1971 cult classic 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'--stars as Willy Wonka, a quirky, reclusive chocolatier who dismissed all the workers from his factory 15 years earlier and hasn't been seen since. To the delight of little Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) and all the other children in the city, Wonka announces a contest in which five lucky kids will win a tour of his factory. Charlie has lived in poverty his whole life, but nothing can prepare him for the amazing things he's about to see when he becomes one of the winners--along with four of the brattiest children ever to grace the screen. David Kelly, Helena Bonham Carter, Noah Taylor, Missi Pyle, James Fox, Deep Roy and Christopher Lee co-star. Directed by Tim Burton; screenplay by John August, based on the book by Roald Dahl. "Entertaining and fabulously inventive" (Variety). (PG) (MV)
