Summary: A lonely little girl bonds with a friendly stray dog in this endearing adaptation of Kate DiCamillo's best-selling novel. Ten-year-old Opal struggles to deal with her emotionally distant dad "Preacher" (Jeff Daniels) and her move to a new town. In the local Winn-Dixie supermarket, Opal lays claim to a trouble-making mutt whom she names after the store. Soon, little Opal and her canine pal are all over town making friends with a wise old blind woman (Cicely Tyson), a mysterious pet-shop clerk (Dave Matthews) and a spinster-ish librarian (Eva Marie Saint) among others. But Opal's father and their landlord want her to give up Winn-Dixie. Perhaps a big party with all of the quirky locals can change their minds! Young newcomer AnnaSophia Robb stars as Opal.
