Summary: "Four stars" (New York Daily News). A young boy's introduction to rock-'n'-roll inspires him to undertake the greatest experience of his life in this touching, personal and semi-factual tale from writer/director Cameron Crowe. Set in 1973, the film details the transformation of young William Miller from innocent 15-year-old music fan into a burgeoning rock journalist. With advice from Creem magazine editor Lester Bangs, William defies his anxious mother ("Don't take drugs!") to pursue his dream by covering a tour with the up-and-coming band Stillwater for Rolling Stone magazine. The wild lifestyle grips the youth with its mad menagerie of music, girls, drugs, booze and never-ending parties, and William soon finds himself struggling to separate his love for his new "family" from his journalistic responsibilities...all while falling in love with a beautiful "Band-Aid" named Penny Lane. With Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson, Jason Lee, Patrick Fugit, Anna Paquin, Fairuza Balk, Noah Taylor and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Winner of the Best Original Screenplay Oscar(R) in 2000. (R) (AC,AL,BN)
