Summary: A well-circulated release on the festival circuit, this directorial debut film from Sebastian Hiriart plays into something of a trope, but comes out strongly on the other side. Born a shepherd, Jacinto (Gabino Rodriguez) navigates the lengthy journey from Mexico to Oregon and its unsurprising ending: an interrogation. Restless for the trip north, Jacinto represents the experience of border crossing, most obviously, but Hiriart does it through both the physical landscape and Jacinto's "elliptical" (ScreenDaily) memories; the result is a soft, if stunning, reflection of home and, of course, hopes.
