Clean Sweep
In 2002 REAL SPORTS told the inspiring story of Willie Davis, a custodian at Arthur F. Smith Junior High in Alexandria, La., who, after being hired in a pinch to coach the boys' basketball team, guided the Rattlers to a 34-game winning streak and three district titles. Today, Davis is working toward his GED, and recently left Arthur F. Smith for a position with the Alexandria Recreational Department. But he has been unable to secure a job doing the thing he cherishes most: coaching. Armen Keteyian updates Davis' story.
