Veteran sports journalist Armen Keteyian, who joined HBO's REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL in January, 1998, will start in September his seventh year as a feature reporter on INSIDE THE NFL's "Cover Story" segment.
In April 1999, he received a Sports Emmy® Award for "Outstanding Sports Journalism" for the REAL SPORTS investigative segment on the public financing of the Arizona Diamondbacks ballpark. And in April 2002, he received his second Sports Emmy® Award for his revealing profile of high school basketball standout Amare Stoudemire. He also served as co-producer of the HBO Sports documentary "City on Fire: The Story of the '68 Detroit Tigers."
Keteyian also works for CBS Sports, where he has served as a special reporter at Super Bowl XXXV, the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and the NCAA basketball tournament. In 2001 and 2002 he hosted CBS' coverage of the Tour De France. He also works as the sideline reporter on the network's lead NFL game each week. Prior to his work at CBS he served eight years as an ABC News correspondent.
A native of Michigan, Keteyian graduated cum laude from San Diego State University in 1976. He worked for two newspapers in California before joining Sports Illustrated in 1982. He then joined NBC Sports as a reporter and producer, working on a wide range of programming, including the 1988 Summer Olympic Games. He joined ABC News in September 1989 and has reported on hard-edged and issue-related sports stories for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" and other ABC News broadcasts. A best-selling author, Keteyian has written or co-written eight books including, "Money Players -- Days and Nights Inside the New NBA," a critically acclaimed account of the rise of the NBA under Commissioner David Stern. Most recently, he co-wrote comedian George Lopez' newly released autobiography "Why You Crying? My Long Hard Look at Life, Love, and Laughter."
Keteyian lives in New Canaan, CT. with his wife, Dede, and their two daughters.
