Episode 243

"This was the week the Supreme Court heard all the arguments about healthcare...The mood in Washington very tense. Angry, incoherent Tea Party protesters were everywhere, including the five on the Supreme Court." -Bill Maher

"I get the feeling this guy [Romney] just wants to be president so he has a place to live while he's remodeling his beach house." -Bill Maher

"I didn't know that my taxes, the only purpose of them was to bomb people in other countries." -Matthew Weiner

On Health Care Reform:

"That's the bad news: there won't be any more healthcare. Of course, the good news: we will take your organs and stick them in Dick Cheney if you die." -Bill Maher

On the individual mandate: "I still think it's constitutional. And I do think that there are grounds for believing that the Court will rule and uphold the law. I would also say that even if the individual mandate is declared unconstitutional, the rest of the bill should certainly stand." -Ezekiel Emanuel

"10% of the population uses about two-thirds of all the health care in the country." -Ezekiel Emanuel

"Why does every other country in the world come to the conclusion that this [health care] is the one thing that is separate from every other issue, that you can't address any other issue if people are sick?" -Bill Maher

"America has always rejected the 'nanny state.' There's always been this 'can-do' attitude, do it for yourself." -Elise Jordan

"I have a Medicare card, so I'm on a single-payer system. I think it's swell." -Rich Galen

On Trayvon Martin:

"Somehow now the standard just goes higher and higher. The kid is not in a gang, he's not armed, he's not doing anything, but he has to wear a tuxedo to be safe." -Van Jones

If the shoe were on the other foot, and you had a black kid who said, 'I'm just wandering around my neighborhood with a gun; I saw a white guy; I didn't think he belonged here, so I shot him,' there is no way that kid would be walking around. He would be in jail." -Van Jones

On the GOP War on Science:

"35% of conservatives have a great deal of trust in science. In 2008, half of conservatives thought climate change was real and manmade. Now, it's only one third." -Bill Maher

"The minute it turns out that it's a good way to knock at this president, then you throw science away; you throw your own platform away to go after this guy. And it's wrong. It's bad for the country." -Van Jones

"There is a concentrated effort, like a football game, to win back the White House and the Senate and the Congress, by the Republican Party, and they will literally grab onto anything and just say no." -Matthew Weiner

"We have reduced politics...but now it's a battle of religious ideologies...but it is a religiosity that we have attached to both sides -- it's not just Republicans." -Rich Galen
