Tom's Personal Message To His Online Oz Fans.
"What a long, strange trip this has been. I want to thank each of you for staying with the show, despite moments of extreme violence or the death of a favorite character or a particularly loopy story idea (though you'll forgive me when, in twenty years, the aging drug is a reality).
Most network executives and studio bosses believe that the TV audience is filled with idiots, who want the same old pabulum sweeps week after sweeps week. Thank God, HBO is different. And you, the loyal Oz viewers, have proven that there are intelligent, adventurous viewers in the world, people who are willing to love a series (and its lead characters) designed to be unlovable. You give me the courage to keep trying to make original and thought-provoking shows.
For a guy who is notorious for not owning a computer, I have become fascinated with HBO's Oz website. Not only do I think the Oz website crew has done an extraordinary job, but I am thrilled that so many of you have used the site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. And I hope that, even with the series ending, we'll continue to add Oz-related information and actor updates. Who knows? I may even sneak in an Oz short story from time to time.
I know that many of you are upset that I decided to pull the plug. But, I would rather walk away feeling strong, than be chased out of town. Or worse, let the show become a parody of itself. Besides, I really have run out of ways to kill people.
On behalf of all the actors and the crew here in New York, thanks again. Ciao."
