episode 12 Phylicia Rashad, Kevin Kline & David Byrne Synopsis The season finale of "On the Record" features one of America's most celebrated "mothers" in Phylicia Rashad. In the 1980's, she was Claire Huxtable on television's most popular sitcom, The Cosby Show, and these days on Broadway, she's starring as Lena Younger in the popular revival of one of our most celebrated modern plays, "A Raisin in the Sun." Two weeks ago, Rashad became the first black actress to win a Tony Award® for leading female role in a play. Another accomplished stage actor, Kevin Kline, is the second guest on the show this week. Right now, he's off-stage and on-screen, starring in "De-Lovely," a musical biography film about Cole Porter. The final musical guest of the year is David Byrne, the former lead singer of Talking Heads, the influential rock group of the 1970's and 1980's. Byrne has been on his own for some time, and his new album is called "Grown Backwards." |

episode 11 Tom Brokaw, "Field of Dreams" & Los Lonely Boys Synopsis This week, as the country mourns the death of former president Ronald Reagan, Bob talks with the voice of NBC News, Tom Brokaw. In addition to being able to offer his perspective on Reagan's death, Brokaw has also done extensive reporting and research on World War II, including his best-selling book "The Greatest Generation," and his work just last week on events surrounding the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Brokaw is six months away from stepping down as the anchor of NBC Nightly News. Also on the show, the third in a series of panel discussions on great films of the past. This week's film: "Field of Dreams." Star Kevin Costner and director Phil Alden Robinson sit down with Bob to talk about the movie, which was released 15 years ago, in 1989. The musical guests are Los Lonely Boys, a trio of brothers from Texas who can brag of being Willie Nelson's favorite band. Their self-titled debut album was released nearly a year ago, but thanks to incessant touring and word-of-mouth publicity, it's making a belated climb up the charts thanks to the Boys' hit single, "Heaven," which they'll play in studio. |

episode 10 Ben Stiller, NBA & Counting Crows Synopsis Bob talks with Ben Stiller this week; the busy actor's latest film, "Dodgeball," hits screens in a few weeks. Stiller has been quite prolific over the past several months, as "Dodgeball" will be his fourth movie of 2004, following "Along Came Polly," "Starsky and Hutch," and "Envy." He's also currently at work on the sequel to his 2000 hit "Meet the Parents." Also on the show, as the Finals begin, a discussion on the NBA with Comissioner David Stern and Knicks president Isiah Thomas. Bob will also interview Adam Duritz, the lead singer of Counting Crows, who wrote the song "Accidentally in Love" for the sequel to the 2001 original. Duritz will join his band on set after the interview to perform the song. |

episode 09 Conan O'Brien, Dennis Quaid & Avril Lavigne Synopsis This week Bob welcomes a fellow late-night host, Conan O'Brien, to the show for an interview that promises to be full of laughs. In his 11th year as host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC, Conan is one of America's most popular comedians. Bob has been a frequent guest on Late Night, often trailed there by his "groupies," the Costas-Heads. Also appearing on the show will be actor Dennis Quaid, whose latest movie is "The Day After Tomorrow," an environmental disaster film. Quaid is a veteran of several sports films, "The Rookie," "Everybody's All-American," and "Breaking Away," among others, and will talk to Bob about those as well. The musical guest is Avril Lavigne, who will perform her new single, "Don't Tell Me." |

episode 08 John McEnroe, Kate Hudson & Alanis Morissette. Synopsis This week, Bob welcomes back tennis great John McEnroe, who first appeared on the show in 2001. On the eve of the French Open, Johnny Mac sounds off on the state of tennis, his best-selling autobiography, and his upcoming show on CNBC. Also, actress Kate Hudson, the daughter of Goldie Hawn, talks with Bob about her latest film, "Raising Helen." Seven-time Grammy winner Alanis Morissette is the musical guest; she'll perform the song "Everything" from her new album, "So-Called Chaos." |

episode 07 Dennis Hopper, George Thorogood & Airplane! Synopsis This week "On the Record," Bob talks with actor and director Dennis Hopper, who has worked with an amazing array of film legends in his 50 year career, ranging from James Dean to Marlon Brando to John Wayne to Paul Newman. Also, in the second of a series of discussions on great films of the past, we convene a panel on Airplane!, one of the original -- and best ever -- film spoofs. Joining Bob will be Peter Graves, who played Captain Oveur; Leslie Neilsen, who played Dr. Rumack; and co-writer and co-director Bob Abrahams. Finally, the musical guest is rock 'n' roll old timer George Thorogood, who is celebrating 30 years of music. He'll play an acoustic version of his famous cover of "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer." |

episode 06 Hugh Jackman, Liz Phair and "Do The Right Thing" Synopsis Bob's first guest this week is a man from down under, Hugh Jackman, the star of "Van Helsing" as well as Broadway's "The Boy From Oz." Jackman will discuss both his film and his show "On the Record," not to mention reveal his true feelings on Koala bears (Hint: Despite his Australian roots, they're not exactly his favorite creatures). Also on set will be singer Liz Phair, who will play an acoustic version of her popular cut "Extraordinary." And Spike Lee and Chuck D of Public Enemy join Bob to look back on Lee's film "Do the Right Thing," 15 years after its release in the summer of 1989. |

episode 05 William Petersen, Jim Caviezel & Yo-Yo Ma Synopsis This week, Bob sits down with the star of television's top show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, William Petersen. The man who plays investigator Gil Grissom talks about being the centerpiece of such a popular show, and also recalls his earlier well-received roles in films like "To Live and Die in L.A." Also interviewed is Jim Caviezel, who plays the title role in "Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius," and may be even more recognizable for his performance as Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ." The musical guest is the cellist Yo-Yo Ma, probably the most popular classical musician in the world. |

episode 04 Denzel Washington & The State of College Athletics Synopsis In Show 4, Bob chats with film star Denzel Washington as the Oscar winner's new movie, "Man on Fire," hits screens this weekend. Denzel also looks back on his distinguished career, and reflects on his influences growing up in Mt. Vernon, New York. Then, with the NFL draft taking place this weekend, a panel is convened to discuss the state of college athletics. At the roundtable: NCAA President Miles Brand; national champion UConn's men's head basketball coach, Jim Calhoun; and Pro Football Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow, Sr., the father of highly touted Miami tight end Kellen, Jr. The musical guest this week is singer Lyle Lovett, whose latest album, "My Baby Don't Tolerate," is a unique mixture of country, blues, big band, and gospel styles. |

Pierce Brosnan, whose latest movie, a non-Bond, romantic comedy entitled "The Laws of Attraction," opens this weekend, talks about playing 007 and much more. Also, in the wake of the controversy of the Super Bowl halftime show, and the FCC's crackdown on indecency, "On the Record" convenes a panel on that topic that includes Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr.; Time magazine writer Joel Stein; filmmaker, lecturer and former model, Dr. Jean Kilbourne, and exiled radio shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge. The week's musical guest is Cassandra Wilson, the jazz vocalist who in 2001 Time magazine named "America's best singer." |
