Bio

John Gallagher, Jr. stars in HBO’s acclaimed series, ‘The Newsroom,’ created and written by Aaron Sorkin. Gallagher’s other television credits include: ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ ‘Love Monkey,’ ‘Law & Order: CI,’ ‘NYPD Blue,’ ‘ED,’ ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Law & Order.’

His film credits include: ‘Margaret,’ ‘Jonah Hex,’ ‘Whatever Works,’ ‘The Good Student,’ ‘Pieces of April’ and ‘Short Term 12.’

Gallagher earned a Tony Award® win for his performance as “Moritz Stiefel” in the Broadway rock musical ‘Spring Awakening;’ he also received a Drama Desk and Drama League nomination. He has played Johnny aka “Jesus of Suburbia” in Green Day's Broadway musical, “American Idiot” and Lee in the 2011 critically-acclaimed Broadway production of “Jerusalem.” Other theatre credits include ‘Rabbit Hole,’ ‘Current Events,’ ‘Kimberly Akimbo,’ ‘Port Authority’ and ‘Farragut North.’
