The idea of being "non-traditional" is nothing new to Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays one of Bill Henrickson's three wives on 'Big Love.' But the actress has also decided to defy convention in her own home this year, by putting the kibosh on a Thanksgiving bird. "After spending time with the rescued turkeys at Farm Sanctuary's shelter," she says, "and seeing how similar they are to my furry companion animals at home, I knew I needed to do everything in my power to protect these friendly and curious birds from the daily pain and suffering they endure on factory farms. I encourage everyone to start a new, compassionate Thanksgiving tradition this year and Adopt-A-Turkey, rather than eat one." If she can just get Bill to follow suit, that's a whole family of fowl right there. (photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/WireImage.com)

Bill Maher has been called many things, but a "hopeless romantic" hasn't been one of them. So a word of advice: If you catch the comedian at your nuptials, don't ask him to bless the marriage. "I'm against it as an institution," Maher says, "but I know it does work for a certain percentage of people. I ... would guess maybe about one or two out of five men is suited for marriage and probably four out of five women are better at marriage than being single and would like to be married. But let's be honest, half the marriages end in divorce. For me, it's never made much sense. I have a girlfriend now, and I'm not interested in anyone else, but I still wouldn't want to bring the federal and state government into my life." (photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/WireImage.com)

Malin Akerman has played the disruptive hottie on two HBO shows now, first as the sweet object of Lisa Kudrow's envy on 'The Comeback' and then as one third of E's threesome on 'Entourage.' Though the actress has taken a less sexed-up role in the upcoming film 'Couples Retreat,' she's still not frightened by a little clothing-optional screen time. "In Sweden, nudity is natural. It's not considered sexual," she says. "We've grown up with boobies on television. People are topless on the beach. My parents would sometimes walk naked from the bedroom to the bathroom. You don't blink because it's so natural. I always think of my parents when I take a role. If I had been brought up in a prudish household, perhaps I would think differently. But, if the role is a good one, the nudity is not even an afterthought." (photo: John Shearer/WireImage.com)

If you assumed that Chris Rock just rolls out of bed every morning and cracks people up, then think again. The comedian's job is never done, and Rock keeps his edge by literally having someone follow him around to record every funny thing he says every day. And then there's the stage time he logs ... "The average comic probably does 30 shows before he shoots a special," says Rock. "I normally do 150. Because I'm doing other things (like movies), I figure I've got less time to work on it than the younger guys, so let me work harder on it. ... A comedian is like half a psychic. Very aware. You kind of gotta notice everything ... Stuff doesn't get by you. You just notice too much," he says. "Like a little computer and you can back it up with data. It's like you've got a Google in your head." (photo: Malcolm Taylor/Getty Images)

Ask most women what they look for in a man and they'll say "sense of humor" or maybe "nice smile." But when you're a comedienne, maybe the ability to yuck it up is a busman's holiday. When Susie Essman settled down (in her fifties) the thing that drew her to her contractor husband Jimmy Harder had more to do with his tool belt. "Competence," Ms. Essman said. "It's so primal. It's, 'We're in the forest and if there is a nuclear holocaust he could build a lean-to.' He could survive. He's a guy Jimmy's a guy, not a metrosexual he's a guy and totally competent."
