Every actor has ruminated over a lost love or childhood pet to get the waterworks going onscreen, but for Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Jessica the eternally virgin vampire on 'True Blood,' things aren't that simple. "My father said, 'You're probably the very first actor that has ever had to portray that particular situation,' so I am now the source material for the regenerating hymen," she says. "It's great. I had to dig real deep, it took a lot of imagination [laughs] to come up with what that would feel like." (photo: Jesse Grant/WireImage.com)

Jonathan Ames, creator of 'Bored to Death,' features his home-borough of Brooklyn prominently in his new series and has been fielding questions about the inspiration for many of the borough-centric details on the show. Explaining what it is about the coffee shop his main character (also named Jonathan Ames) frequents to the NY Times' Fort Greene blogger, Ames says: "He goes to Smooch Cafe in Fort Greene, and he goes there for the reasons that I usually choose cafes free newspapers and a high concentration of cute girls writing at laptops." And though reading his essays and fiction one might think he was more guilty of the latter, apparently he was notorious for the former. "This one old-timer figured out what I was doing, and when he would spot me, he'd say to his cronies, 'Hold your papers, hold your papers, here he comes.'" (photo: Barry Brecheisen/Getty Images)

No sooner did Michael Emerson win an Emmy® for his role on 'Lost' than the actor started making demands namely, to work with his wife, Carrie Preston, who plays Arlene on 'True Blood.' "I think it would be fun if I got to play her father," Emerson says. "I would go on any Alan Ball show to do just about anything. I will be the face in the window, I will be the cab driver... I don't want to be a vampire." (photo: Mark Sullivan/WireImage.com)

Ricky Gervais doled out some of the best jokes at the Emmy® ceremony Sunday night, which comes as no surprise given his roots. "I still think of myself as a comedian acting," he says. "I remind people of that by falling over for their entertainment." So, aside from physically abusing himself, what's the secret to all the success Gervais has had, including a presentation at the Toronto Film Festival and a new film project with his 'Extras' co-star Stephen Merchant? "I surround myself with people who are better than I am," he says. (photo: Mathew Imaging/WireImage.com)

Ted Danson's serving double-duty this season for HBO, reprising his role as himself on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' while also playing a pothead magazine editor in the new series 'Bored to Death.' As it turns out, though, life would be much easier for Danson if his character were a struggling mechanic or a bitter divorcé: "Drama is much easier for me. I said this before slightly jokingly, but it's true you can show up drunk, depressed, hungover, whatever, and the camera goes, 'Ooh, that's interesting.' In comedy, you're more of an athlete. There's this groove you have to find and an energy that's more athletic and precise." (photo: Mathew Imaging/WireImage.com) |
