The Long and Short of It

Sometimes devotion to one's craft is a lot less dangerous than weight fluctuations, Navy Seal boot camp or appearing without makeup. Once in a while all it takes to be Method is a wardrobe change, as Anna Paquin explains of prepping for her role in 'True Blood.' "After I was cast and realized my body would be exposed all the time, I went out and bought some shorts — I owned none — to help me get used to it," she said. "I've learned to feel very comfortable wearing very little. It's liberating!" (photo: Todd Williamson/WireImage.com)

Keep Your Shirt On

Sam Trammell (aka Sam Merlotte, proprieter of Bon Temps' favorite watering hole) has a particular worry when it comes to shape shifting for 'True Blood.' "I definitely have to stay in good shape, but I don't even try to compete with Ryan Kwanten," Trammell says. "I recently had to do a scene with my shirt off, and Ryan had his shirt off in the same scene. It doesn't feel great. No matter how good of shape you are in, you're going to look bad." Dressed to Kill

You'd think after a thousand years, you wouldn't still look in your closet and think "I have nothing to wear!" But Alexander Skarsgård explains that for Eric's appearance in the season two premiere of 'True Blood' when he attacks one his hostages in the basement, he thought long and hard about the right ensemble. "We had a lot of fun with that scene. I worked on that with the costume designer, wanting to find something weird or disturbing and flip flops was probably the weirdest outfit we could come up with for a badass vampire to wear while killing a guy." Ryan v. Jason

Ryan Kwanten is a fierce defender of his 'True Blood' character, Jason Stackhouse, as not just another pretty face: "There's definitely things that I try to put into the performance that layer who he is and, hopefully, give him a subtext, so he's not just this redneck horndog, going around town doing silly things. He's a man trying to find himself." But the actor is harsher when it comes to judging himself: "I look at scenes and episodes, and I think, 'Oh, I could have done that. I should have done that. Maybe I'll try this next time.' ... [Artists are] not really the best at judging our own work, but it's always nice to hear people saying nice things about it." (photo: Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic.com)

Fang Banger

Deborah Ann Woll first landed a gig on 'True Blood' as the innocent young Jessica, but Alan Ball must have decided her character had teeth...she was turned by Bill at the end of the first season and returns as a newbie on season two. In fact, Woll says one of the biggest challenges of her transformation is acting through the fangs. "You put them in and, for about the first 10 or 15 minutes, you sound like Cindy Brady with her little lisp. It's very hard to be cool, immortal and scary when you sound like Cindy Brady."
