Scary Movie Star

Larry David has upped the ante for "squirm factor" over the years for viewers of 'Seinfeld' and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.' And now, playing Woody Allen's alter-ego in Allen's latest film, 'Whatever Works,' David's own daughter may not even be able to watch her dad's starring big-screen role. Witness what happened when David brought 'Annie Hall' home for his 14-year-old daughter: "She couldn't get through it, because [Woody's character] reminded her too much of me. She can't watch me, either. As far as I know, we're the only two people she's said that about." (photo: Jason Kempin/WireImage.com)

Strip Mauled?

You'd think publishing 26 novels over three decades would have sucked a lot of writers dry, but not Charlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels that 'True Blood' is drawn from. Her latest, 'Dead and Gone,' debuts at No. 1 on the NY Times fiction list this Sunday. The first book in the series sold for $5000; now she can treat herself to a diamond ring. And there's more where that came from; Harris says she can get an idea for a character from a trip to the mall: "Every trip to Wal-Mart is an inspiration." (photo: Mark Sullivan/WireImage.com)

Black Tie Optional

Ricky Gervais has probably never been accused of being a slave to fashion, and now he never will be. When he and his girlfriend were invited to the Whitehouse along with Ben Stiller and Shawn Levy and their families, he took one look in his closet and realized he was facing a fashion emergency. "We had a convoy of black limos waiting. All my smart clothes were at the hotel dry cleaners. We couldn't be late and couldn't miss the opportunity," he wrote on his blog. "There was only one solution. I went in my pajamas. (Absolutely true) Thank you." (photo: Ray Tamarra/Getty Images)

Inventing April

Warren Leight, executive producer of 'In Treatment,' describes the relationship between Alison Pill, 23, (who plays April) and Sarah Treem, 28, (who wrote April's storyline) as like "twins." In a joint interview, the women concurred that they shared a unique bond — with each other and with the character they created together. Both women describe themselves as having a lot of adult responsibility at an early age and becoming overwhelmed at times with the task of taking care of oneself. But on set, not everything was about work. They'd often sneak off and meet at the backstage doors. "Everybody thought we were talking about scripts, but we never were," Pill told the NY Times. Added Treem: "We were only ever talking about boys. It was kind of pathetic." (Bruce Glikas/FilmMagic.com)

Just Another Horatio Alger Story

His house burns down, his wife leaves him, his kids move out and he can't afford to rebuild his life on his High School teaching/basketball coach salary. In 'Hung,' HBO's new down-on-his-luck-with-a-twist show, Ray (Thomas Jane) decides to harness his one "winning tool" and become a gigolo. But don't expect the show to be well-endowed with dick jokes, insists show creator Dmitry Lipkin: "It has its sexual moments, but the show is very much about what's happening in the country, how people are trying to survive using what God had given them."
