Hard Times

You could probably think of a million reasons not to open an all-male brothel in Nevada, but Heidi Fleiss has just one: It's too complicated. "I don't want to work so hard and deal with all the nonsense in the sex business," says the subject of HBO's documentary 'Heidi Fleiss: The Would-Be Madam of Crystal.' So where does an infamous sex maven turn to make a living after the "Stud Farm" goes up for sale? Alternative energy, apparently. "That's where the money is," she says. "That's the wave of the future." (photo: Mark Sullivan/WireImage.com)

Taking Care of Their Own

The creative team behind the HBO Film 'Taking Chance' attended an especially poignant screening of the film this week at Little Hall aboard Quantico Marine Corps base in Virginia. Kevin Bacon was there with the man he portrays, Lt. Col. Mike Strobl. The film follows Strobl's real-life account of escorting the body of Chance Phelps (killed in Iraq) to his final resting place. "I didn't know anything about the process of escort duty," Bacon said. "I think that most people are really surprised that so much care and so much detail is taken. I think Mike's journey was fantastic in the way that he was able to not write just a basic report but actually talk about how he felt and how people reacted to him. It was very powerful writing." The film debuts on HBO at 8 p.m. on February 21st. (photo: Paul Morigi/WireImage.com)

Stirring the Pot

Will Ferrell has a knack for capturing the humor in people you think can't possibly fall any lower — and then do. There's the new HBO series 'Eastbound and Down' with Danny McBride, which Ferrell exec produces and makes a cameo in. The show is about a washed-up Major League pitcher (McBride) who makes nothing but bad decisions.

But it may be Ferrell's portrayal of President George W. Bush that really reveals Ferrell's comedic "strategery." "There's been an incredible combination of some insane news events that he's had to deal with and obviously some poor decisions on his part," explains Ferrell. "(Combining that) with his type of personality and the fact that he can't speak properly makes for a wonderful kind of comedic stew." Ferrell is bidding adios to Dubya in his current turn on Broadway 'You're Welcome America: A Final Night with George W. Bush.' (The show will air live on HBO on March 14th). Silence is Golden

Clark Johnson aced both sides of the camera on 'The Wire' (directing the series finale and playing newspaperman Gus Haynes). But he knows how to hold his tongue when that's what the job calls for. Playing an older boxer, aptly named Silence, in the indie film 'Nurse.Fighter.Boy,' Johnson explains: "Directing and acting are oil and water to me, so when I put on the actor hat I'm worried about hitting my mark. I've been a driver, worked in effects, then stunts — I know about the division of labor." Clark has already won acting kudos for his role as the film makes the round of festivals. Life Lessons

Besides claiming the unique distinction of having been killed by a Terminator, an Alien AND a Predator, 'Big Love' star Bill Paxton achieved it all after being rejected by film school. "I'm still bitter about that," he says. "I thought, 'You know what? Bulls**t on film school.' It seemed like all the film students I'd met just wanted to talk about film theory and Godard. And we were getting mugged in downtown L.A. making films. ... I thought Hollywood was an Elysian Field. And then going down Hollywood Boulevard on a bus, sitting next to a transvestite, I felt like I had missed this place by about 50 years." (photo: Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com)

Leave It To Beaver

Ever wondered what your co-worker's nickname was in kindergarten? Ever care? If a "friend" has recently sent you a list of "25 Random Things" about themselves, don't worry, they haven't joined a touchy-feely cult. Unless you consider Facebook a cult. In a recent NY Times piece about the phenomenon, Jim Beaver ('Deadwood') discussed the list he sent to his 1790 closest pals, including the fact that he didn't know what a bagel was until he was 27. Beaver, who developed his forthcoming book, 'Life's That Way: A Memoir,' as a series of emails to friends, finds that writing somewhat anonymously can be very therapeutic and revealing — and perhaps preferable to a tete-a-tete. "I've gotten 25 random things notices from people that absolutely fascinated me," he said. "But I'm pretty certain I wouldn't want to be stuck on a bus with them telling me these things."
