Many Happy Returns

'True Blood' fans might never have seen Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette if it weren't for his high school girlfriend. Back in the day, she urged him to join the speech team, where two teachers — Tim Sweeney and Bill Kirksey — saw and nurtured the young man's talent. "I had no intention of being an actor," Ellis says. "It was my first experience being at a school where you had teenage black men who were serious about stuff, and you had these teachers who cared about the students and paid attention. I was, like: 'I'll do this because people seem to be serious.' My years at Thornridge probably changed the course of my life."

And while this season of 'True Blood' didn't exactly offer a happy ending for Ellis's character, his fans won't have to wait long to see him again in the upcoming film 'The Soloist' with Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. "If this moment never happens again," Ellis says, "I hope that it will be enough to show Mr. Kirksey and Mr. Sweeney that their investment in me wasn't in vain." (photo: Todd Williamson/WireImage)

Read Their Lips

If you've waited too long to grow a stache for Movember, it's not too late to join Bret and Jemaine in supporting prostate cancer research by donating online. The folk comedy duo behind Flight of the Conchords are supporting the New Zealand Cancer Society as well as NZ's Mental Health Foundation's program to help men experiencing depression. The pair answered some tough questions about facial hair recently, including "What does a moustache say about a man?" Bret replied: "He's a sex machine." Jemaine: "His top lip is prepared for any weather. It has a shade when it's hot and a blanket when it's cold." (photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.com)

The Secret of His Success

When Rex Lee first landed the part of Ari Gold's assistant Lloyd, it was by no means clear that one day he'd have opening credit billing and his own blog. Of his first few appearances he says: "One of the episodes, I literally had one line and the line was, 'Jon Cryer on line three.'" But the ambitious actor had a plan: "It wasn't preordained that the character would last; I just went to work with an agenda, namely that I defied them not to keep me around...And, incredibly, it all worked out." Eau de Walnuts

Get a whiff of this: Paulie Walnuts (Tony Sirico) has a new cologne out called "Paolo per Uomo," (Paul for Men). According to Sirico, the lengthy trial and error to get the scent of mobliness just right was perfected with a dash of cognac which "made the magic." As for what inspired him to try to create the next olfactory sensation, Sirico explains: "I was always well-groomed. You could smell me coming." (photo: Bobby Bank/WireImage.com)
