A Little More 'Enthusiasm'

Was it a dream? Did Larry really hook up with Loretta Black? Or will he and Cheryl reunite? 'Curb' fans get to find out. Larry David has agreed to another season of HBO's longest running series; the gang will gear up in December to improv their way through more uncomfortable situations for 2009. Royal Flush

You've got to hand it to Helen Mirren — as an Oscar®-winning actress who's had tea with the queen, she still hasn't lost her edge. In 'Love Ranch' she plays Nevada's first legal madam, running a brothel alongside Joe Pesci, who doesn't react well when Mirren takes up with a visiting prizefighter. Director Taylor Hackford is shopping the finished picture around after its supporter, Capitol Films, suffered financial woes. "I'll take the film myself to studios, a track I followed with 'Ray,'" Hackford told Daily Variety. "Everyone thought that was a studio film, but I only showed it after I finished it. I got lucky because Ron Meyer loved it." (photo: Dominique Charriau/WireImage.com)

Homeward Bound

Who needs Hollywood when you've got Wilmington, NC? Danny McBride — one of the minds behind HBO's new series 'Eastbound and Down' — brought his whole production back to his home state (never mind that his show is about a washed-up baseball player who comes home to teach Phys-Ed...) "It was a little bit of a fight, but once we got here, HBO immediately brought another show here, 'Little Britain USA,' and they love it," he says. "They love coming to Wilmington. And slowly but surely, I think, their perception of the South is starting to become a little bit more updated. There are some times they think it's all like Spanish moss and Colonel Sanders accents and trailers." (photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage.com)

Acting Out

Keith Carradine ('Deadwood') will be confusing New York theater goers starting next week in the psycho-drama 'Mindgame' directed by film director Ken Russell. Carradine plays the doctor who is in charge of a mental institution that houses a serial killer...or does he? "It takes place in a mental asylum or does it...is it a mental asylum or a country house. It's very creepy and if we pull this off, it will be a really, really entertaining evening! And it will be the kind of thing, because it's so complex, that people will be tempted to come back and see it again, knowing what they know and having seen it once." Role Playing

Dr. Weston's (aka Gabriel Byrne's) appointment book is filling up for the next season of 'In Treatment.' Hope Davis and John Mahoney will be on the couch (in separate sessions), having signed on to play two of Paul Weston's new patients. Apparently not everyone blames their parents for everything in therapy: Davis plays Mira, a high-powered attorney and former patient who blames Paul for being single and childless. Mahoney plays Bill, a confident CEO struggling with a loss of control over his life. (photo: Jim Spellman/WireImage.com)

Laugh Out Loud

It's one thing for a comedian to leave his stamp on the art form, but to revolutionize it? To alter the very conventions of the craft? 'Flight of the Conchords' star Rhys Darby knows that feeling, and it's summed up in four words: Mime with sound effects. "When you look at mime," he says, "quite a lot of the population were missing out. The blind, for example, didn't know what was going on. But with my mime, they're getting in on the action as well."

Sexpert Testimony

Katie Morgan quit the porn biz last year, but some habits are hard to break. Wanting to lend authenticity to his new film, 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno Flick,' director Kevin Smith cast Traci Lords and Katie Morgan (HBO's 'Katie Morgan on Sex Toys' and 'Katie Morgan: Porn 101'). Morgan looks at the role as a stepping stone to mainstream films, but says that doing porn is a choice, not a desperate act. "The biggest misconception is that it's the last resort," she explains. "I was good and slutty and I liked the money." (photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage.com)

No. 1 with a Bullet

With four HBO projects going on — including 'Entourage' and 'In Treatment' — a hit action movie, a baby boy and a new commitment to the game of golf, Mark Wahlberg has had his hands a bit full. "I love staying busy, but even for me, this is crazy," he says. "I'm still a 'grass is always greener' guy. I can't let a good project go." And by "good project," he's talking about the box-office-topping 'Max Payne,' a film "where I blew (expletive) up. I'm older, a parent. I'm trying to do more than just act. But I occasionally still need to raise my voice on screen." (photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images)

Another Side of Bacon

Kevin Bacon (star of HBO Films' upcoming 'Taking Chance') talks about his charity organization SixDegrees.org in Ingrid Newkirk's new book 'One Can Make a Difference,' reports ecorazzi.com. It's a site where celebrities (and the rest of us) can draw attention to a favorite charity for online donations. "Doing good work makes you feel good, makes you feel as if you have some control over your life and your future," says Bacon. "I have this joke motto: someone asks me, 'How are you doing?' and my answer is 'I'm doing what I can with what I've got.' That can work for everyone." (photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage.com)
