Bringing Home the Bronze

Oscar De La Hoya hasn't entered the ring in his hometown of Los Angeles for more than seven years, but with the intimidating advantage he's about to gain, he may never want to fight anywhere else. Officials announced that the Golden Boy will be cast in bronze outside the Staples Center, his seven-foot likeness placed alongside fellow L.A. sports heroes Magic Johnson and Wayne Gretzky. "I'm going to drive by it every day," De La Hoya said. But he won't have the statue's help when he comes to the city to fight Steve Forbes at the Home Depot Center on Saturday night. Family Sing-Along

Guitar-toting movie stars don't get much respect out of the gate, so Kevin Bacon isn't afraid to tackle his band's built-in PR problem head-on: "We've been chipping away at that awareness, chipping away at the fact that most people think we're gonna suck ... We really do NOT suck," he says of the aptly named Bacon Brothers, which he leads along with his older bro Michael. The elder Bacon has made a career in music — including an Emmy® win for scoring 'The Kennedys' — but the siblings split song-composition duties. "A lot of times people assume that I write all the songs," says Michael, "that I arrange them and I stick Kevin up there as kind of a puppet or something. It's absolutely not that way. In fact, he writes probably 60 percent of the songs and I write probably 40 percent." (photo: Bobby Bank/WireImage.com)

Lowe Blow

Who's laughing now? Ricky Gervais comes clean in his blog about his antics on the set of his new film 'This Side of the Truth' when he tried "having a laugh" with some toy firearms. "One fires six darts at once and one has a rocket launcher. It soon got out of hand and in one particular stand-off I shot 'West Wing' star and Hollywood hunk [Rob] Lowe in the eye." But Gervais stuck to his guns and continued to mock his co-star, refusing to show any sympathy. "I sweated for the first few takes after lunch," he writes. "It did not affect my performance. It didn't affect anything. I always look a bit sweaty. At least my right eye wasn't bloodshot like that loser Lowe." (photo: Rebecca Sapp/WireImage.com)

Word on the Street

Novelist Richard Price — who wrote for 'The Wire' after publishing 'Clockers' — has received some hearty praise for his latest book, 'Lush Life,' a culture-mashing crime story based on New York's Lower East Side. But when New York Times critic Michiko Kakutani noted that no one could top his realistic dialogue, Price was quick to deflect the compliment. "It's just a knack I have, that's all. Some people can run fast. I guess this is my thing," he says. "I don't do it in any scientific kind of way. I don't jot down expressions I hear. In fact, most of the expressions I make up. It's a lot of improv ... You know, the heat's on [for the next book]. I better not develop a tin ear. Maybe I'll never write any dialogue again." (photo: Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.com)

Get Thee to a Nunnery!

Lauren Ambrose must be drawn to the self-destructive types. First she plays the psychologically unhinged Claire on 'Six Feet Under,' and now she's going classically crazy this June as Ophelia in the Public Theater's production of 'Hamlet' in Central Park. At least Richard Easton — who plays Ophelia's father, Polonius — should do a better job of keeping her off the meth. (photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.com)

Hair of the Dog

In 'Bernard and Doris,' Susan Sarandon grew quite attached to one of her accessories, a Pomeranian-Maltese mutt named Penny. "Penny was in a few scenes," Sarandon explained. "It was a character part for her. She had her hair blown out to look like she's a wealthy dog." Showing off the mutt at a west coast press junket, Sarandon explained Penny's preference for a more cropped coiffure: "This is the way Penny normally looks. She thinks the short hair makes her legs look longer." (photo: Michael Loccisano/FilmMagic.com)

Retail Therapy

There's the kind of break-up song that lets you wallow in your misery (Barry Manilow's 'Even Now' or R. Kelly's 'If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time'). Then there's the kind that urges you to move on (Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive' or Green Day's 'F.O.D. (F**k Off and Die).' For the new 'Sex and the City' movie, Fergie calls for a credit-busting form of sublimation: trade shopping for Mr. Right, for shopping for Mr. Choo. The singer-songwriter/rapper's throbbing pop call-to-action 'Labels or Love' urges: "No emotional baggage just these bags filled with Dior...Let's stop chasing those boys and shop some more..." Pop Icon

Shia LeBeouf, who made his name on 'Project Greenlight,' has been tied up lately with another little flick known as 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.' Though the young star had to "earn the hug" from Indy legend Harrison Ford, LaBeouf soon regarded him as a father figure. But it was a certain expectant mom on the set who really earned the young man's respect: Cate Blanchett — as the villain. "She's kind, but the minute 'action' is called, she's not Cate any more. She's mean," he says. "She was pregnant and doing these crazy swordfights, but she held her own for hours. Honestly, she's a bad ass." (photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images)

Demented Humor

David Cross made a splash on HBO with 'Mr. Show,' and with an upcoming pilot in the works, you'll be seeing him again soon. Just don't expect him to remember. When New York magazine asked the actor about his latest work on some animated films — including the premiere of 'Terra' at the Tribeca Film Festival — Cross gave the rundown: "'Kung Fu Panda' is coming out next month, and some movie, like, 'The Legend of Something Something' ... Man, it was a while ago. Like, a year ago. 'Legend of Secret Pass,' that's it. Or! 'The Secret of Legend Pass' .. And there are some other ones sitting around — who knows when they're going to be released?" (photo: Brian Ach/WireImage.com)

Bracco Sticks to the Script

If you see a "script" signed by Lorraine Bracco on e-Bay any time soon, be sure to read the fine print, it may not be an episode of 'The Sopranos.' At a recent fundraiser for a mental health facility at a hospital in Providence, Bracco put her John Hancock on a Rx bottle of Zoloft. The actress, who has struggled with depression, was happy to lend her support to the cause — even fielding a few non sequiturs. When asked whether she saw a similarity between Tony Soprano and Salvador Dali, Bracco replied: "Having met both, I can say I'm not seeing it." (photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage.com)
