Wish Upon a Star

Every once in a while, the universe grants you an experience you would have killed for when you were 14. For Adam Scott, who plays Palek on 'Tell Me You Love Me,' that moment came as a role in Martin Scorsese's 'The Aviator.' "I got really into Martin Scorsese as a teenager," Scott told IGN.com, "so then it was kind of the whole reason I wanted to be an actor. Then I got a part in 'The Aviator' and couldn't believe it. It was nuts. I was freaking out the whole time. I still can't believe I'm in that movie." (photo: Jason Merritt/FilmMagic.com)

You Talkin' to Him?

When Ricky Gervais was shooting a scene in the film 'Stardust' with Robert DeNiro, it took him all day on set to work up the nerve to ask the actor if he would consider appearing on 'Extras.' The answer was equivocal. "Finally I ask and he says he's really busy, but he'll call..." explains Gervais. "Two days later he calls and says, 'Hi, it's Bob. We did that thing together.' And I went, 'I thought I told you to never f**king call me!' And he laughed!" (photo: Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com)

Money for Nothing

The exertion of Melissa George's marathon sessions on HBO's new psychological drama, 'In Treatment,' may just be karma catching up with her. Back in 2003, when the actress signed on with Fox for a never-aired TV adaptation of 'L.A. Confidential,' she managed to catch the gravy train. "Oddly enough, I was quite well paid during that whole period," George says. "They tend not to skimp on pilots — the networks like to know the full potential I guess — so I was the best paid actress without an actual gig in Hollywood for a while." Trailer Hitch

In a recent interview, Cheryl Hines recalled the early days of 'Curb' when the cast all shared the same trailer. While it helped with their bonding — especially for Hines who was the new kid on the block (David, Garlin and Essman had all worked together before) — there were a few drawbacks. "I remember when Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor did the show, and she was pumping at the time. She was still breast-feeding, and we're all in one trailer, and she would have to go in that tiny bathroom. I was like, oh, this is probably not good for every occasion. So, yeah, it has its ups and downs." (photo: Foc Kan/WireImage.com)

First Wives Club

As first-wife of the Henrickson household on 'Big Love,' Jeanne Tripplehorn's Barb has had to accommodate a lot of kooky relatives up at the compound. And now she's signed on to play Jacqueline Kennedy Oasis in 'Grey Gardens,' where she'll be coming to the rescue of the eccentric Big and Little Edie — the real-life aunt and cousin of Jackie O's first husband JFK. The two-Edies made the news when they were discovered to be living in a racoon-infested mansion, overrun with garbage, in East Hampton. They were the subject of a Maysles brothers' documentary, which was turned into a Broadway play — and shooting has begun for the HBO Film. (photo: Lester Cohen/WireImage.com)

Bird in Hand

Tim DeKay, currently holding down the sexless 40-something bracket on 'Tell Me You Love Me,' is all set for the show's second season, even if it means exposing himself to another year of his buddies' masturbation jokes. "They'll come up to me and say, 'Hey, I never knew you were a lefty,'" DeKay said in an HBO.com exclusive interview. "I just tell them it's a character choice. I'm a right-handed person, but it's a character choice to have him be left-handed. It's just an aspect of his life." As for the show's next installment? "I'll tell you what I want to see happen — I want to see David and Katie have sex every episode. Like they've gone crazy." (photo: Maury Phillips/WireImage.com)

When Reality Sets In

If the Writer's Guild walk-out strikes fear in your heart over having to spend the long cold winter with only 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' and 'Viva La Bam' to keep you occupied, perhaps you should follow the advice of the San Francisco Chronicle's Tim Goodman and stock up on DVDs of shows you missed the first time.

Top two on his list are 'The Wire' and 'Deadwood.' "'The Wire,' like all great television, is often more rewarding than a book. Besides, this is a TV series written by novelists and journalists. It's guilt-free greatness," he writes. As for "Shakespeare in the mud," he says " In Season 2 [of 'Deadwood] — and this is high praise, indeed — you could turn the picture off and just listen. There's nothing else like it. And that's why you should give it a shot."

Welsh on the Money

At the ripe old age of 35, Joe Calzaghe not only took out 28-year-old Mikkel Kessler in Sunday's Cardiff bout, but now the new champ wants to spend the next year battling for another title before he retires: "It's time to put on an extra 7lbs and cause some more destruction in another division," he said. "I want to be a two-weight world champion." (photo: Will Hart)

For Butter or Worse

There are benefits of celebrity, and it's not all swag bags and VIP treatment. Larry David reports he can now be much more rude — all in the name of pleasing his fans. "I feel like TV Larry is my role model," he says, "and I'm becoming a little more like him — just because I CAN be, because that's what people expect." For example: "Now it's easier for me to make what would be perceived as an anti-social comment: If I'm at someone's house for dinner and there's way too much butter in the mashed potatoes, I might say so now. Whereas before I would be tactful enough not to." (photo: George Napolitano/FilmMagic.com)

Lightening in a Bottle

Once an actress wins a couple Emmys® and catches an Oscar® nomination, the pabulum of Hollywood subsides, and she finally gets a chance to tackle deep, artistic questions. Just ask 'John Adams' star Laura Linney. "My hair has been a great topic of conversation for many a producer and director over the years," she says. "It's eaten up enormous amounts of time. For example, it was very important to ['Savages' director] Tamara Jenkins that it was dark and not neat. I had to do 'Nanny Diaries' the day after I finished 'Savages.' You can go blond to dark, but it's very hard to go dark to blond quickly. I'm amazed there's a single strand left in my head! (photo: Jeff Vespa/WireImage.com)

Take Her Hand

Cynthia Nixon took time off from shooting the 'Sex and the City' movie to get her hands dirty — literally. She and other celebs inked their hands and left an impression on the Curel® Skin Care Helping Hands Wall at the Time Warner Center in New York. The handprints were auctioned off on Sunday, with proceeds going to the Red Cross. Said Nixon: "The fires in California remind us how important it is that we all lend the American Red Cross a helping hand so they can continue to provide resources to those in need." Comic Relief

Some comedians worry about getting laughs. Richard Lewis just worries — which is why he believes his stand-up act has evolved into a 12-step program. "I actually feel like I'm a public service — with sneakers. If you talk about (problems), it's like being in a self-help group with Richard Lewis. It's like 'Hello, I'm Richard, and I have myriad problems.' 'Hello Richard!' The whole audience is a Worry Anonymous group." (photo: Chris Weeks/WireImage.com)
