Anyone would expect to find a few light sabers rattling around Mark Hammill's house or maybe a proton pack at Bill Murray's, but Anna Paquin's souvenir from 'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee' might not make such a great toy for the grandkids: "I did get to keep one of the costumes. There is a sequence in the film following the massacre at Wounded Knee Creek when all the severely injured people are taken to the clinic. I get soaked in blood so I needed to have a double of the costume. I kept the one with the blood on it. I have it on this antique mannequin in my living room." ![]() He's Baaaack!
Larry David was surprised to hear his brand of humor on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' referred to as horror comedy. "I never knew that it was going to have this kind of squirming effect," Larry David told USA Today. "I never expected that some people would just be so uncomfortable they'd have to leave the room." Viewers can expect plenty of discomfort in the new season. Even regular Ted Danson reports he was taken aback when he showed up for one of his scenes to find Lucy Lawless trash talking about him. You know you're a real movie star when audiences pin you down to a character type, and Paul Giamatti has certainly arrived. "I kind of get offered a lot of psycho parts, you know, weird peeping-Tom masturbators," says the actor, who plays the U.S. president in HBO's upcoming mini-series John Adams. In James Gandolfini's war documentary, 'Alive Day,' the 'Sopranos' star poses some difficult questions to a group of American soldiers who were wounded in Iraq. In a Vanity Fair interview, Jonathan Bartlett, who was a 19-year-old Army corporal when a roadside bomb took both his legs, explained his motivation for opening up in the film: "I hope people will stop and think about the military in a different way. I hope they will understand that we did things the way we did because soldiers just do what they're told to do. It's not like we have a choice. That's our job. And you know, we get horribly wounded, and then we have to live with it. We have to change. You have to go from being a soldier to being someone else. You have to pick up the pieces and put them together in such a way that you can function." (photo: Gary Gershoff/WireImage.com) ![]() Golden Prospects
John Hawkes staked his claim to fame selling hardware as Sol Star on 'Deadwood," and the actor's labor has definitely paid off. In November, he'll join Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe and Cuba Gooding Jr. in 'American Gangster,' the story of a '70s drug kingpin who used caskets to smuggle heroin into Harlem. With three more projects lined up for 2008 a comedy, a drama and a biopic Hawkes won't be riding off into the sunset anytime soon. Any 'Entourage' fan would have trouble picturing Ari Gold rocking out to folk music in his BMW, but the super-agent's real-life namesake a member of 'Entourage' star Adrian Grenier's band, The Honey Brothers definitely knows his way around a ukulele. Still, even the actual Ari Gold has to wrestle with the influence of Hollywood: "There's this challenge of having to get through to the people who are here for reasons that have nothing to do with the music," he says. "In any crowd there's always haters who will [look] right through us as though we put on the band to capitalize on a TV show. That's simply ridiculous." ![]() End of the Wire
At 4:40 am last Friday, after a full day and night of filming, it was a bittersweet wrap for the cast and crew of 'The Wire,' as they completed their final episode of their final season. As actors finished their final scenes to applause, some received flowers (Sonya Sohn, from her daughter) and others shaved (Reg Cathay who plays Norman Wilson got rid of his afro). ![]() Mourning for Punk
Steven Van Zandt campaigned hard along with NYC punk club founder Hilly Kristal to save CBGBs, but the battle was lost. Hilly Kristal lost another battle this one to lung cancer last week. About to head out on tour with Bruce Springsteen's E Street band, Van Zandt was among the many rock stars who spoke out, still angry over the club's demise: "CBGB was a tragic loss New York will never recover from and maybe its better Hilly doesn't have to watch the town that invented personality slowly turn into the Mall of America." With an A-list cast including James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Bobby Canavale, Steve Buscemi and a distributor (United Artists) John Turturro was sure his film 'Romance & Cigarettes' would have a smooth ride to theaters. But the actor-director grew frustrated when the film, completed in 2004, wasn't getting released in theaters after United Artists was merged into Sony and the new suits were baffled by the musical numbers in the film. So now he's releasing it himself at New York's Film Forum theater starting Sept. 7th. ''In a business like ours, once people say, 'We don't want something,' you're tainted goods,'' Turturro told EW.com. ''[The release] may be small, but it's an unveiling. I'm happy about that.'' Jeff Garlin likes to play games. In an interview with AVclub, he playes "Random Roles," where he has to tell a story off the top of his head about various roles he's played in his career. He dishes up candid anecdotes about everything from 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' to 'Baywatch.' ![]() JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE: FUTURESEX/LOVESHOW: tonight on HBO at 9 pm. Labor of Love
With Justin Timberlake's HBO concert on the horizon, the pop prince picked up the chief compliment available from Kanye West's famous ego: The rapper placed JT on his own level. "My biggest inspiration and biggest competition is Justin Timberlake," West says. "If Justin hadn't come out and killed the game, I can't say that my album, singles and videos would be on the same level that they're on. We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day." (photo: Theo Wargo/WireImage.com) |
