Kevin McKidd has already traveled back in time on the set of 'Rome,' but his latest project finds him lighting willy-nilly upon different decades. As Dan Vassar, a San Francisco newsman on NBC's 'Journeyman,' the actor will spend the first season discovering why he's abruptly transported to different periods of his life. McKidd could have solved the mystery with a trip to the writers' room, but he declined the invitation: "It's better for me to be experiential through the whole thing," he says. "If I start to know too much about my [character's] journey, then I think that can affect the acting, and you can become too knowing. ... I think it's better to be a clean slate in that respect." Kevin Connolly may not be krumping for Cat Deeley any time soon, but he will be hitting the barre for his upcoming film role playing Benny Goodman. The film (about the first interracial band in the thirties) co-stars Nick Cannon and Ludacris as Teddy Wilson and Lionel Hampton and Brandon Routh as drummer Gene Krupa. Connolly appears confident that faking the clarinet will be a cakewalk compared to faking a little soft shoe. As he told the NY Post. "The good thing about the clarinet is you only have to look like you know how to play...I still have to learn how to dance and they'll be playing the music in the background." David Eigenberg has been keeping busy post-'Sex and the City.' Miranda's former significant other has been the voice of Nermal in 'Garfield: The Movie,' and shown up on various procedurals ('CSI,' 'Without A Trace.') And he recently joined the cast of 'See You in September,' the feature directorial debut of actress Tamara Tunie ('L & O: Special Victims Unit'). Eigenberg presumably will be in familiar territory: it's a film about a NYC woman with commitment issues. Filming is underway for 'The Punisher 2' and director Lexi Alexander is already gushing over her leading man, 'Rome' 's Ray Stevenson, on her blog: "I can't remember the last time an actor has impressed me so much with merely an expression. Maybe Meryl Streep? Brando? I know these are grand names, but I'm not exaggerating. Ray Stevenson is a grand actor. He is also one of the most committed people I have ever met." ![]() A Little World After All
Michael K. Williams, who plays stick-up artist Omar Little on 'The Wire,' has traded in his shotgun for a sniper rifle on Spike TV's 'Killpoint' and brought a chunk of his Baltimore crew with him. If it seems like the 'Wire' guys are always rolling three deep, Williams has an explanation: "This rotation that you see going into 'Kill Point' has been going on since 'Oz.' We're all from New York, we're all African-American actors. . . . This is a good 10 years of working with each other, knowing each other. The world is small in Hollywood, especially for African-Americans. We see each other often on the set." (photo: Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.com) ![]() Island Bound
Here's a new theory: Maybe the island on 'Lost' is the place that favorite character actors go to become stars. According to TVguide.com, Ken Leung who played Uncle Junior's unstable mentee in the final season of 'The Sopranos,' has been cast as "a brilliant mathematician who is capable of great insights and has a tremendous knowledge across various scientific fields." Rumor has it he'll be on the season premiere in February. Rhys Coiro ('Entourage') is donning a suit instead of battling one in his next small screen role. He'll be playing an FBI staffer on the next season of '24.' If Billy Walsh's mercurial directing career crashes and burns, Coiro may be able to at least save the world or at least Jack Bauer. (photo: Jason Kempin/FilmMagic.com) ![]() Suffering for Her Art
Kaitlin Olsen, who has played Larry David's sister-in-law Becky on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' enjoyed her time on the set, even though she "was like 'What?! There's no script?'" Another improvisational journey, however as one of Ashton Kutcher's pranksters on Punk'd didn't make the actress any friends: "Amber Tamblyn started crying. That was sad. And Beyonce, she just hated my guts. They make it look on TV like people are all into it, but nobody likes to be tricked like that." After dishing out comic gold as an unforgettable omelet on 'Saturday Night Live,' Justin Timberlake will join 'SNL' alum Mike Myers in the upcoming film 'Love Guru.' In the flick, Meyers provides marriage counseling for a hockey pro, while Timberlake runs interference as the client's romantic and professional rival. ![]() On the Rebound
E may have dumped Sloan on 'Entourage,' but Emmanuelle Chriqui (who plays Sloan) has been too busy playing the field to notice. The actress recently finished filming the thriller 'Tortured,' opposite Laurence Fishburne and headed straight into Adam Sandler's arms as his co-star in 'You Don't Mess With the Zohan.' He may be presidential in the upcoming HBO miniseries as the title character in 'John Adams,' but Paul Giamatti opted to channel Karl Rove for his villainous turn in the action film 'Shoot 'Em Up,' in theaters in September. The film's writer-director Michael Davis blogs on MTV.com about meeting Giamatti on a hot summer day in Soho. "His shirt is unbuttoned down to his belly button. He doesn't care. Nor do I. He's relaxed....He says he'd like his character to be based on Karl Rove a seemingly bookish guy who exercises power behind the scenes. I like it. His character turns out to be way more flamboyant than Rove... but I like how our free-flowing conversation started making the character better than what is on the page." When the cast of 'The Sopranos' gathered to read the final script, Edie Falco cracked. "I can be pretty stoic, but I couldn't hold it together," she told the Herald Sun. "It was intense. I was overcome. I couldn't stop. It was embarrassing." James Gandolfini finally leaned over and gave her a kiss on her teary cheek. "Working with these people all these years, they have become family in the truest sense of the word. I nauseate myself. They're as much family as any I've ever known." Jeff Garlin wanted someone to eat cheese with so he took matters into his own hands, writing a film to direct and star in co-starring Sarah Silverman and Bonnie Hunt. 'I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With' is about chubby chasers "nice girls who want the big-guy experience," as Garlin explains it.
Talking to Esquire, Garlin offered this advice to chubby men struggling in the romance department: "First of all, lose some weight. It's not good for you, and your cholesterol is probably horrible. But if you're comfortable in your weight, just enjoy yourself....The minute you stop giving a shit about getting laid, you get laid. Of course, your readers are not going to be f**king Sarah Silverman. But the minute you just throw it out there, the chubby chasers will find you." (photo: Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.com) |
