On the J.Lo

With Jennifer Lopez producing the newly released HBO Films/Picturehouse movie 'El Cantante,' the megastar singer/dancer/actress/perfumer/clothier has added another job description to her already stuffed resume. Lopez, known in her old Bronx neighborhood as 'The Supernova,' admits she's "constantly in motion, always working. You get to a point where you think, life is passing me by."

Her marriage to 'El Cantante' co-star Marc Anthony (who plays Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe) has J. Lo slowing down a bit, however. "I thought, I have to stop and enjoy things a bit, and then I can do these other things, too," she says. "But you have to have something to do that for, and since I've been married to Marc, I've decided to concentrate more on actually living a little bit, as well as working on things close to my heart." To that end, next month she and Anthony team up for what will be her first concert tour. Their show, says Lopez, "will have a mix of singing and dancing and English and Spanish. It'll take people on a ride and make you feel. Like everything we do." (Photo: Jeff Vespa/WireImage.com)

Child's Play

It may seem that Bob Saget has undergone a foul-mouthed metamorphosis since his days as a No. 1 dad on 'Full House.' But according to the comedian, the dirt on display during his upcoming HBO special predates those days of neon scrunchies and tight-rolled jeans. "I just locked in at 9 years old," Saget says. "When I go on stage and I'm talking dirty, or whatever the hell people call it, I'm just being 9."

In fact, Saget fans with VHS players and time to kill can uncover nuggets of the comic's alter ego just beneath the sanitary surface of his '90s image. "If you watch 'America's Funniest Home Videos' now with me on it," Saget says, "there's a lot of weird and edgy stuff in it. I said stuff like, 'These clips are going to spew into your face' -- that's just terrible." (Photo: Jesse Grant/WireImage.com)

Starter Wives

Granting hope to experimental college students everywhere, Bill Paxton has managed to parlay his wilder days into inspiration for his role as 'Big Love' polygamist Bill Henrickson.

According to the actor, "There was a time, when I was a drama student, I shared a loft with two girls. It was a kind of bohemian existence. We were all good friends — loving friends."

Now married (to just one woman), Paxton has good reason to relegate any polyamorous exploits to the screen: "It is every guy's dream, but the reality of it is actually one sticky wicket. If you are going to juggle women you'd better not drop one." (Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.com)

Down the Rabbit Hole

David Milch's metaphysical mindbender 'John From Cincinnati' saddles its cast with plenty to keep them up at night, but surfer-turned-actress Keala Kennelly enjoys the added oddity of working with a pantheon of '90s icons.

"I'm not a star-struck person in general," she says. "So it's easier for me to have normal relationships with them without being hung up on their fame. But that's not to say I didn't have those surreal moments when we're all out at a bar and Luke Perry's buying me a drink, Al Bundy's telling me a joke and I'm thinking to myself, 'How the hell did a surfer girl from Kauai end up here?'' Kissing Up

Often when actors read for a role, they walk out knowing they nailed the audition and got the part (even when they didn't and won't). But when 'Big Love' star Ginnifer Goodwin auditioned to play Bill Henrickson's third wife opposite the already-cast Bill Paxton, she was positive she'd blown it. On that fateful day, she entered the audition room, shook hands with Paxton, then jumped up on him, lavishing big wet ones all over a guy she'd never met before.

"He was clearly thrown, and everyone in the room was clearly thrown," Goodwin recalls. Convinced she had just kissed the job good-bye, she frantically called her agent to apologize for her mortifying behavior. However, after calming her down, her agent put her on speaker phone with the HBO executives and 'Big Love' team, who told her she just landed the part. Still somewhat embarrassed, Goodwin says, "So the lesson learned is: Make out with Bill Paxton." (photo: Gregg DeGuire/WireImage.com)

Love/Hate Relationship

Hollywood's conventional wisdom asserts that for an on-screen romance to sizzle, the actors must have chemistry. But is the inverse true, too? Say your celluloid couple is one bordering on complete collapse, like the crazed scream-fest marriage between Cissy and Mitch Yost of 'John From Cincinnati.' Must Rebecca De Mornay and Bruce Greenwood share the same animosity for each other as their characters do?

Not according to De Mornay, who once starred with Greenwood in 'Thick as Thieves' but "didn't really get to work together on that. I've been a huge fan of his. I've tried to work with him on a couple of occasions ... but it never worked out." De Mornay confides, "I don't know if I could've done this role without him because as much as Cissy and Mitch don't get along, the solidarity with Bruce that I feel within all of this has been amazing." Sister-Wife From Hell

'Big Love' creators Mark Olsen and Will Scheffer wrote the role of Nicki with Chloë Sevigny in mind, casting the indie-flick darling against her often-sexualized type. How did they know the character struck the right nerve? "We heard the tapes of a Sunstone conference in Salt Lake City — a group of progressive Mormons who sit around and discuss current issues — and they had a group of polygamist women in to review the show," Olsen told NPR's Terry Gross. "They were talking about the character of Nicki, and all of them applauded that character, saying, 'Oh my God. She is our worst nightmare. We all worry about our husbands bringing home a Nicki into the fold.'" (photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.com)

She's Just Not Into It

This summer, Sarah Jessica Parker has been running around a lot. In addition to prepping to film the 'Sex and the City' movie, last week she was in Cincinnati promoting her new low-cost clothing line, "Bitten." According to NewsNet5.com, her hometown fans were impressed that the actress — made famous playing Cosmo-sipping, stiletto-stepping glam-girl Carrie Bradshaw — seemed so down-to-earth and non-Hollywood.

Perhaps this is because Parker doesn't much dig her famous character's high society ways. "I used to spend 18 to 20 hours a day filming in heels. I've totally destroyed my body by running and dancing in heels. My knees are shot," she told the British edition of Elle magazine. And, she's not so into the booze either, "I like a good Cabernet, but I never drink a hard cocktail. I've had many Cosmopolitans sent across when I'm in bars, but I always think, 'God, if I can get this in a bottle, I could clean so much stuff at home.'"

Method Acting

While shooting 'Flight of the Conchords' in New York, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement managed to catch the worst weather the metropolis has to offer. Starting with winter slush and wrapping with jungle-like humidity, the pair slowly succumbed to the seasons: "I think extreme exhaustion just gave us our desperate edge. You notice throughout the series, we get progressively darker under the eyes," McKenzie says. "We're just sleep-deprived. We shot five days a week and then recorded music and rewrote the scripts on the weekend. So to say we were kind of burnt-out would be an understatement. (photo: Jason Merritt/FilmMagic.com)
