Them's Fightin' Words

Ricky Hatton's loose tongue might find a few loose teeth to match — if Floyd Mayweather Jr. has anything to say about it. After Hatton denigrated the champ's prowess in an HBO interview, Mayweather advisor Leonard Ellerbe threw a counter: "He's been talkin' all this trash, now we're calling his bluff. He's nothing but a little punk, and we'll see if he's man enough to step up to the plate. Be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it." (photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage.com)

When A Stranger Calls

Lisa Kudrow's quirky sense of humor and laid-back sensibility is renowned, but she still makes some men pant in their underwear. When Kudrow called the writer/director and co-star of her latest indie film, Scott Prendergast, he was so taken aback that he started hyperventilating. "And then I realized I was standing in my driveway in boxers with nothing else on." As Kudrow pointed out: "And the reason why I was calling was to make sure he was not crazy!"

Apparently it takes more than some heavy breathing and public semi-nudity to scare off Kudrow. 'Kabluey' is their new film, which just premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival. It's the story of a slacker uncle who moves in with his sister-in-law and her family while his brother is stationed in Iraq. (photo: Jordin Althaus/WireImage.com)

Walker, Texas Ranger

As a member of the Walker family on 'Brothers and Sisters' and as the fiery Brenda on 'Six Feet Under' Rachel Griffiths has never been timid about taking on the inlaws. But in her latest project, she'll be siding against the outlaws. Griffiths will play Inez Scull, the wife of Inish Scull (Val Kilmer), the Captain who leads a Texas Rangers' fight against outlaw Comanche and Mexican bandits in the latest Larry McMurtry miniseries, 'Comanche Moon.' As she explained her character to EW, she plays a woman who ''feels unbridled by contemporary conventions, just does whatever the f*** she wants when she wants.'' (photo: Don Arnold/WireImage.com)

Organ Failure

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' creator Larry David has a great ear for comedy, but occasionally tuning it to a different key would suit co-star Richard Lewis: "For some reason Larry David is clueless about rock 'n' roll. When he hears something he likes, he starts singing or, worse, whistling." But, when it comes to talking about the show's new season, David hears everything: "I can't divulge anything about the story arc or my house will blow up mysteriously," Lewis says. Save the Date

Hopefully Dane Cook picked up a few pointers from 'Mr. Brooks' because he'll be killing a lot of romance in his new project, 'Bachelor No. 2.' His character, an imposter hired by guys who've just been dumped, treats their newly single ladies to a nightmare out on the town, driving them back into his clients' arms. But, when Cook accepts the contract to take out his buddy's ex — played by Kate Hudson — business heads south. The Lionsgate film starts shooting in Cook's hometown of Boston this August. A New Breed

Jemaine Clement's new movie, 'Eagle vs. Shark' has joined 'Flight of the Conchords' in drawing hipster laughs, but the film's director, Taika Waititi, has more pressing matters to ponder than the rise of ironic comedy. "I've always thought about who would win," he says. "An eagle can pick out eyes and the shark can rip s**t with their teeth, but they are so different; if they would front up against each other, I believe they would find each other's beauty, you see? They would chat about something and then say, 'Why did we come here? What do we achieve by fighting?'" Of course, such an unnatural bond can end only one way: "And then the world would be filled with sheagles." (photo: Fred Hayes/WireImage.com)

Pushing the Envelope

How Stephen Merchant got his 'Office' job

On 'Extras,' he's self-centered and clueless as the agent to Ricky Gervais, but in real life, Stephen Merchant is a real pip — at least according to his best friend, novelist Nikita Lalwani. The two started out together as trainees at XFM and have been pals ("like siblings") ever since.

Lalwani recalled the birth of Merchant's career in an interview with The Independent: "I remember the moment 'The Office' first happened — it was one of those amazing moments that you know is significant. Stephen came in that morning with an envelope covered in scrawls. He said something about he and his friend Ricky having an idea about a character who was a racist, sexist bigot, who puts his foot in it all the time, but doesn't realise it. I said 'You joker. How are you going to make a drama in one day? Look at you with your envelope!' I remember when we all had to show our work and his came on; after seeing what he'd done, no-one spoke. It seemed so original, it was terrifying." (photo: Sylvia Linares/FilmMagic.com)

Baby Got Back

Drea De Matteo's time on 'The Sopranos' didn't provide the expectant mother with many role models, but — if the cravings are any indication — nature has kicked in. "It's weird because I'm Italian and I never eat Italian food normally," she said. "I guess I'm getting back to my roots, getting ready to cook!"

Macaroni for two, however, comes with some foreseeable side-effects: "I feel like I'm carrying the baby in my [behind], it's so big." (photo: George Napolitano/FilmMagic.com)

Back in 'Bed'

Uma Thurman is returning to HBO. The actress, who won a Golden Globe® for her role in HBO's 'Hysterical Blindness,' has signed on the star in 'My Zinc Bed,' by David Hare, adapted from his stage play. Shooting in London, the film is about an alcoholic (Paddy Considine) who has an affair with his boss' (Jonathan Pryce) wife (Thurman). (photo: Theo Wargo/WireImage.com)

Man of Action

He calls "Action!" for his own performance and gives interviews about playing an interviewer. Is Steve Buscemi's life imitating art, or is his art imitating life? Buscemi has been on the festival circuit with his film 'Interview,' which he directed and stars in with Sienna Miller. The film, a remake of Theo Van Gogh's film, is about a war correspondent sent to interview a young starlet. Buscemi, who isn't wild about giving interviews himself, has had to settle into the job. "It's just part of the business," he told the Seattle P.I.

Buscemi admits that he considered other actors for his role in the two-hander: "I think I was really intimidated by the fact that it was such a demanding role and I was going to be directing it. That was a concern so I was thinking of other actors, but in the end, selfishly, I think I recognized that this was too good a role to pass up." (photo: Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.com)

Frisky Business

Rebecca de Mornay hasn't let life knock her around. In a recent conversation with the LA Times, she explained that her tough upbringing made her bold. Finding herself in a casting office when she was just getting started, she was told she'd have to pay her dues with one-line parts. "And I said: 'No, I've paid my dues. My life so far has been paying dues. I want a leading role.' And that's what I got: 'Risky Business.'"

Currently playing the matriarch in 'John from Cincinnati,' she reflected on the meaning of surfing in the show: "I think our culture focuses, in our sports and leisure and politics and lifestyle, on dominating other people across the world or Mother Earth or women in general. But to be a great surfer you have to give in to the water, the ocean, which is unpredictable and unconquerable. You have to ride the wave you're given." (photo: Lester Cohen/WireImage.com)

Gun Moll

Cara Buono packs heat

Cara Buono (Mrs. Christopher Moltisanti on 'The Sopranos') may be for gun control but that hasn't stopped her from learning how to lock and load for her art. Buono has joined the sci-fi serial 'Dead Zone,' as the skeptical Officer Anna Turner. She quickly realized she wouldn't be able to fake the gun play and would have to learn to shoot for real. "When we first did it, it freaked me out and then you kind of feel this sort of power which is what I think people don't want to give up," Buono said. "I don't know if it's this primal feeling we have to all destroy each other or something...I don't know what that is because I definitely didn't think I would be that person who would think that it was fun. Seduction, that's a good word." (photo: Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.com)

The Tipping Point

What drew Stanton to polygamy

Harry Dean Stanton, who delivers a spooky performance as polygamist patriarch Roman Grant, had more than enough experience to recognize 'Big Love' as a breakout show: "It is controversial, unique and totally different from any other (American) television series, ever." But even after decades on the screen, the 81-year-old actor isn't immune to a bit of flattery. "I met the writers, who said they were thrilled to have me in their project," he says. "That was probably the biggest inducement." (photo: Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.com)
