Powers Boothe has swapped vying for control of a whorehouse (as Cy Tolliver on 'Deadwood'), to vying for control of the White House. As the Vice President of the United States on '24' Boothe tried to invoke the 25th amendment on this week's show in order to oust POTUS. The critics agree, Boothe does bad-ass best. Chicago Tribune wrote: "I'm loving Powers Boothe as the possibly evil vice president Daniels. Nobody brings the barely restrained fuming rage like Boothe." And Read Express notes: "Of course, no one wields power quite as excellently as Powers Boothe (it's in the name)..." (photo: Albert L. Ortega/WireImage.com) ![]() The Tao of Steven
As Silvio Dante, the hardest thing Steven Van Zandt ever had to do on 'The Sopranos' was off Adriana and wear gold chains. "I really had to transform myself physically to even step out of the trailer," he told the NY Post. "I gained a bunch of weight. I wore clothes that were made by people who made clothes for the mob. When I looked in the mirror, I saw Silvio." ![]() Peabody Awards Announced

When Adam Beach hosted the 14th Annual National Aboriginal Achievement Awards last month, he surprised himself by getting choked up. "I almost cried at my opening speech because I was so overwhelmed," he told the Toronto Sun. ![]() New Cowboy on the Block
Joey Pantoliano visited Texas for the screening of his new film 'Canvas' at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival. The film tells the story of a boy and his father as they cope with their mentally ill mother/wife. He managed to do some shopping for a new look while he was in town. "I want to be the first and foremost New Jersey cowboy on the block," he said according to the Dallas News, outfitting himself with two cowboy hats and a pair of alligator boots. There was a Kim Dickens sighting on 'Lost' last night. The actress (a.k.a. Joanie Stubbs of 'Deadwood') reprised her role as Cassidy Phillips, the ex-lover Sawyer betrayed in a major con. Next up for Dickens: her big screen role in the next Rambo movie, playing the little woman (Mrs. Rambo). (photo: Todd Williamson/FilmMagic.com) ![]() Switch Hitter
Starting next week, James Gandolfini can be seen on the other side of the law playing Detective Hildebrandt, one of the detectives chasing the Lonely Hearts Killers. 'Lonely Hearts,' the film that tells the story of the 1940s serial-murdering couple (played by Salma Hayek and Jared Leto), made its Los Angeles premiere at Methodfest film festival last week and opens in theaters on the 13th. The guys on 'Entourage' may not look like they care about what they wear, but that's on purpose, according to the show's costume designer Amy Wescott. Talking to the NY Sun recently, she explained: "Vince has to really look like he doesn't put a lot of thought into it. He'll wear Gucci pants with an old beat-up T-shirt. He'll wear that just to hang out, especially if they have to go to an office. That's his way of dressing up." ![]() Freddy Rodriguez and Rose McGowan at a book signing for 'Grindhouse.' Lili Taylor's in a good 'State of Mind.' Or so says the actress, who spoke to USA Today recently about the new TV series she's headlining on Lifetime. "It feels smart, funny and poignant," Taylor said. "And it's not like anything I've seen yet about therapists." It was the author (and psychotherapist) Amy Bloom, who also wrote the pilot, who lured Taylor to the project. "She's a smart woman and a great writer," Taylor said. "She has a real eye for the intricacies of how humans operate." (photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.com) ![]() Suspicious Minds
Lately, thesps from down under have been hogging the good women's roles (Naomi Watts, Nicole Kidman, Toni Collette). But Laura Linney (Abigail Adams in HBO Films' forthcoming 'John Adams' miniseries) is starring in the latest film from Aussie Ray Lawrence, director of the indie favorite 'Lantana.' His new film, 'Jindabyne,' stars Gabriel Bryne (the star of HBO's upcoming 'In Treatment') as an Irishman living in an Australian town. When he discovers a girl's body in a river but takes several days to report it his wife (Linney) grows suspicious. ![]() Yo, Einstein
Andy Serkis is taking on the role of genius in a new HBO Films and BBC project 'Einstein and Eddington.' The film tells the story of how Einstein developed his theory of relativity and the correspondence he kept up with British astrophysicist Sir Arthur Eddington throughout World War I, when their respective countries were at war. According to the Hollywood Reporter: "Because of the military conflict, no new developments in German science were being made known to the rest of the world. So it was Eddington's 1920 article, which offered proof of the relativity theory of gravitation using data from the 1919 solar eclipse, that introduced Einstein's theory of general relativity to the English-speaking world." ![]() Bill Paxton, Chris Klein, Ginnifer Goodwin and Donal Logue celebrate 2007 Mavericks (presented by Emporio Armani). Ari has told E that Sloan is too hot for him, and she doesn't seem to bother any of the guys more than any longterm girlfriend would. Even Emmanuelle Chriqui, who plays her, doesn't reveal any flaws in her recent character analysis. The NYPost reports on an interview that Chriqui did with Genlux magazine, talking about her alter ego. "I know a lot of Sloans," Chriqui said. "I live in both New York and L.A.; I see them. She's like a New York society girl, without any of the cheesiness some of them have. Sloan's traveled the world like I have, but she's done everything, gone everywhere, and she isn't jaded. She's knowing and innocent at the same time, has her own flair; she's unique and therefore confident enough not to need all the attention in the room." Comedy has always coming easy to Ricky Gervais, it's the work part that took him awhile to hunker down to. As he explains in a recent interview with This Is London: "If someone ran in and said: 'Oh my God, we need a sketch for three people and it's got to be about this,' I could do it. I could do it as I spoke, it would rattle off my tongue. It's easy." |
